Final Fantasy 3, a journey

Final Fantasy 3, a journey

During the Stevetendo show, I played Final Fantasy 3 for the first time.

During the Stevetendo show, I was able to play and complete Final Fantasy 3 for the very first time. It was a roller coaster of emotions with highs and lows. The journey of the Steves, as we named practically every playable character some form of Steve. For those wondering, that decision was asked to the chat and they said name the characters different forms of Steve and it didn't take much convincing either.

You don't really know how tough it is to play an RPG for the first time and feel that feeling of helplessness when you have no idea what to do or where to go next. In reality you really only have that feeling the first time you play something but it feels awful when you get lost multiple times looking for something. As I mentioned before there were highs and lows during the playthrough and if you watched any of the hrs. of playthrough there were, you probably already know where I'm going with this.

Let's get the easy part out of the way, the lows or should I say low point of the adventure came at the Cultist's Tower. This part of the game almost ruin the rest of the game for me. It was one of the first experiences of my gaming life, playing that tower. No save point anywhere, only being able to use magic, AND having to defeat the MagiMaster in one pass. Getting to the top of the tower is a pain but having to fight one of the toughest bosses in the game, especially if you don't know how to fight him. It took me quite a few attempts and the worst one came when I was prepared for his one hit KO move but it turns out, what I thought was a mortal blow wasn't a mortal blow and killed my party anyway. After some level grinding, we were able to defeat the MagiMaster but jokes on you; you have to walk back down the tower. Don't you dare die on the way down, as you can't save. One wrong move and you'll be playing the tower all over again.

Other than the Cultist's Tower, I can see why everyone holds Final Fantasy 3 in such high regard. The music is fantastic and the character development is spot on. Since I named all the characters a different form of Steve, I don't really know their real names but I loved seeing how Stevie, Nevets, and Stelvs were going to turn out. (Watch the playthorugh, you'll know whom I'm talking about) It was about halfway through when I knew I wanted to destroy Kefka but I did really like giving him a voice.

I believe the playthrough took about 53 hours to complete but it was a fun ride. I have decided that one way to fill the void from a completed RPG is with another one so Chrono Trigger will be the next Stevetendo Wednesday game so come out and have some fun with me!
