Greg's Confessions of Childhood - I Never Owned A Super Nintendo

Greg lets it all out.

Never owned a Super Nintendo. Ever. I fell into the Sega Genesis marketing hard. To this day I regret not getting one. It was probably the biggest mistake of my young life. My parents absolutely hated video games, my next console would be a N64, and I had to buy it myself. So ya just something I think about from time to time.

PS - What the hell was Blast Processing? lol

Me neither :( My parents wouldn't let us buy a gaming console until I was older. The N64 was my first console. However, they would let us rent a sega or a SNES from Blockbuster sometimes. we even rented a Sega Saturn once. I remember being wowed by Nights.

Still the N64 is a great place to start. I was way late to the Nintendo Party.

I started with a Sega Master System (actually an Apple II C with a few games), traded it for an NES, then had a Genesis, then at one point had a SNES but I'm not actually sure how we got it. My parents didn't buy it and I sure didn't but we had one. My younger brother may have borrowed it from someone (permanently).

      Wish I kept it.

I didn't play anything on console til PS1, but thankfully friends did.
I still remember firing up the Home Alone side scroller through DOS.

We're like inverse gamers: a SNES is still to this day the only gaming console I've ever owned.

      Lots of people didn't, I almost didn't.

My best friend at the time had a Genesis and I really wanted one too. My younger bro wanted a SNES and my parents had to pick one to be our big present on Christmas that year and, in no small part I think due to the advertisements Sega was putting out at the time, they got us a SNES. Probably changed my gaming preferences and helped form my understanding of fun over all else when it comes to design, and honestly because of the stellar RPGs on the system I likely dove harder into gaming than I would have on the Genesis. Interesting how looking back on that decision changed the biggest hobby in my life (and possibly cemented it as such) going forward.

I had an Amiga. My first console was... the Sega Saturn. Great consumer choices.

      I didn't own a console until I bought a PS2 in college.

I had an SNES but then didn't own another console until the Gamecube. Thankfully I could game on PC in that time.

Neither did I but I had friends and neighbors who did. Borrowed them from time to time.

I ended up buying one from a shacker here actually years ago.

Played my parent's Atari and my brother and I played NES with my parents when we were kids. We had both a SNES and a Genesis at the time and really enjoyed both for different reasons. Sega for sports games and some adventure games like Sonic. SNES for the Nintendo properties and great games.

      I had an Atari Jaguar.

It was neat to be part of this little club of underdogs with no hope of being mainstream. It was lame to have to play Kasumi Ninja instead of Mortal Kombat.
