I thought they stopped for a while and then brought it back? I haven't looked at a magazine of any variety in years so I don't know for sure.

They did. Sales of the magazine were down so they dropped the centerfolds in 2016 so people really could read Playboy for the articles.
Sales went down further so they brought them back a year later in 2017.
But they stopped printing magazines in 2020 since a combination of low sales and COVID-19 interfering with distribution and now they're online-only.-
Interesting! I'll admit that's a bit of a bummer. My dad had a stash of Playboy magazines I found as a kid and that was definitely a first step into a whole new world for me hah.

Amusingly, even through the year where Playboy wasn't publishing centerfolds, Playboy TV still existed/exists as a porn channel but it's owned by MindGeek, the company that owns PornHub and a bunch of other shit in the adult industry. When the industry started circling the drain - because PH was putting them out of business - they went on a buying spree and bought a bunch of other companies cheap.
