Another Season of Destiny 2 is upon me. It feels like this one arrived significantly faster than the last, granted, that’s likely because of the delay between Season of Arrivals and Beyond Light. But now, whether I wanted it or not, I’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal (AGAIN?).
As far as Destiny 2 Seasonal content goes, Season of the Chosen appears to have all the workings of a season that people will enjoy. There’s the hero of Arrivals, the Prismatic Recaster; the loin-spawn of everyone’s favorite Emperor Calus, Empress Caiatl; more than 50 points of Power to chase; a Chalice of Opulence-like device, the Hammer of Proving; and a new Exotic bow I will refuse to use. Things are looking pretty good from the onset and, given the roadmap, it looks like there’s going to be a steady pace of additions coming to the game.
Even a cursory look at the Bell of Conquests Seasonal Artifact is encouraging. The last two columns have some interesting mods that I wouldn’t mind tinkering with. Surge Detonator looks like a return of last season’s mod, albeit focusing on Arc instead of Stasis. Focusing Lens increases Light ability damage, which likely means a team split between Stasis and Light will find themselves dealing more damage, especially those that throw on Volatile Conduction for that bonus Arc Super damage. It’s also great to see something like Sundering Glare, whereby you can weaken an enemy by simply landing precision hits – this ought to be a winner against something like the end boss of the Deep Stone Crypt.
Oh, and who could forget a suite of new mods to earn. These look to behave in a similar fashion to Charge with Light and Warmind Cell mods. The main mechanic is something called “wells” – which shouldn’t be confusing at all. If you’ve yet to check them out, you absolutely should. Some look to increase your weapon damage with a specific element, which could turn out to be quite powerful for DPS phases.
Also, the new armor is hilarious. It looks so funny. I laugh every time I see it. It looks like we’re wearing our big brother’s armor or slapping on some LEGO-like heads. Maybe it’s the 2:30AM start time delirium setting in, but damn it if this isn’t the best armor the artists over at Bungie have ever designed.
Just LOOK at the dumb face on the Hunter. Oh my goodness, I cannot breathe.
So far, things are looking pretty good for Destiny 2. People always like to claim that Bungie is on its “last chance” to redeem itself in the eyes of the playerbase but realistically, Destiny 2 is doing great and continues to do so. The only thing that’s going to kill Destiny 2 is if Bungie physically switches off the servers and calls it a day.
Now, back to growing fat with Power so I can do Emperor Calus proud and defeat his daughter. Any other Shackers managed to dig in and see what the Season offers? Definitely interested to hear other thoughts. Not too sure how I feel about the availability and gating of Cabal Gold, though, chances are that's just an early-Season problem.
