VR for Microsoft Flight Simulator gets a release date

You can fly with all major VR headsets on December 22

boarder2

Microsoft announced today that VR support for Flight Simulator will be released on December 22, 2020.

At launch it will support

  • Windows Mixed Reality Headsets
  • Oculus VR Headsets
  • Steam VR Headsets

It doesn't appear as though touch controllers will be supported at launch, but all existing input interfaces such as yoke, throttle, joystick, etc will work.

Mouse support has been translated to 3D space so you'll be able to use your mouse to interact with cockpit controls like switches, buttons, dials, etc.

In-game windows such as ATC or the VFR map will be able to be positioned in 3D space as well.

Main menu navigation is also supported so you won't have to remove your headset to set up your flight.

Check out the announcement video below.

I want to get a group flight going one day doing the Janet route from Vegas to Groom Lake AFB if people are down, that could be a fun VR flight!

...How is this going to not induce vomiting or headaches due to lower fps? I'm curious as to how it will look.

We'll see. With Oculus if you can hit half the native refresh rate it can interpolate missing frames to make it feel smoother. I think Vive has something similar.

I’ve been soaking in my HP Reverb G2 the last 2 weeks. The WMR motion smoothing is really impressive. I can run a title at 45fps and it’s still a smooth 90fps experience as long as there are no complex motions. Ideal for a civil flight simulator.

This product launch has really been a massive letdown in terms of being smoothly run, good luck to you!

Ditto, although I've just been assuming that I won't see mine before February.

I ordered in mid October, they've said that orders from before 10/25 should ship by the end of this month.

They had confirmed VR was coming when it released; I can see the confusion.
