Last night, God Emperor of Video Games Geoff Keighley bestowed many trailers and awards on the deserving games industry. One of the highlights of The Game Awards 2020 was the reveal of the newest DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Please take a look at the reveal of Final Fantasy 7's Sephiroth.

This reveal has caused considerable consternation amongst the Smash community as they were in the middle of an S-tier hissyfit over the latest slew of actions by the Big N. Nintendo recently stopped a mental health charity drive featuring custom Joy-Cons inspired by the late YouTuber Etika. They have also been sending countless cease and desist letters to tournament organizers who broadcast Melee tournaments powered by the Slippi mod on the Dolphin emulator. We even tackled a story where a streamer thought they were being swatted but it was just Nintendo's lawyer breaking down their door to stop a Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity stream.
We reached out to several vocal Smash pros and influencers across the Melee and Ultimate community, and here's what they had to say:
"Look, I know all I ever do is complain about sword characters, but did you see how big Sephiroth's sword is? Oh, Melee? Yeah, we still want Nintendo to Free Melee, but did you see that part where Mario almost got impaled?"
"2020 has been a tough year for me personally, having been banned from all organized tournaments because of an overzealous liberal online mob, but getting more of these animes like Sephiroth in Smash Ultimate has restored my faith in justice and Nintendo's rule of law."
"Last week I was still super into the whole #FreeMelee movement, and it would be cool if Nintendo actually supported the competitive Smash scene at all, but I will take another sword character. I really like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, so Sephiroth is pretty neat."
"I am still pretty pissed off at Nintendo about how they are treating the Melee scene, but I will still buy this Sephiroth DLC. I wish they spent some time fixing their trash ass online play in Ultimate, but I guess I will just keep rewarding Nintendo for their constant abusive behavior. I need to create content for my stream and YouTube channel, so if I boycott Nintendo, I will go bankrupt. They really do have us right where they want us."
Are you standing with the Smash Melee community or are you a filthy Nintendo simp? Will fans ever break this cycle of abuse? Let us know what you think in the Shacknews Chatty comment thread below.
