It was high overcast and fairly nice, so I went for a drive. On the road at 3 AM, arrive at Kalaloch Beach around 6:15. As usual I'm the only person there. The overcast got a bit thicker as I got closer to the coast, so it started out mostly grey. Sunrise around 7:40, and there was about 15 minutes of the sky lighting up.
7:35 AM, looking south. 3440x1440
I did a 100% crop of that one. 2100x1400
7:37 AM, looking more easterly. Sunrise continues. Could that be the shadow of Mt. Rainier (at 2 o'clock)? 3000x2000
7:40 AM. Tree of Life at sunrise. It was kind of underwhelming in person, but it's interesting anyways. 3000x2000
7:43 AM. I think sunrise colors have peaked and are starting to fade. I like how the driftwood kind of points at the sky. 3000x2000
7:46 AM. A few people from the nearby campgrounds are out on the beach. I cropped this one to just show one person looking at the waves. 3000x2000
Seagulls having breakfast. Some flying away from the waves. 2400x1600
7:56 AM. More seagulls. Sunrise colors almost gone. 3000x2000
After sunrise colors fade I leave the beach and go to the rainforest. This is a little falls on the way to Sol Duc Falls. 10:18 AM. 3000x2000
Detail shot of Sol Duc river. 3000x2000
Everything is very green. I like the ferns, rocks, and mossy tree surrounding the bit of river. 2000x3000
After awhile I switch to my macro lens and take some close-ups. 12:06 PM, some berries. Red baneberry? 3000x2000
Water droplet and moss. 3000x2000
Blood red webcap mushrooms. 12:18 PM. 3000x2000
Then finally I get the classic shots of the falls. They are pretty impressive, I hadn't been here in ~15 years. It's a good drop, they say it's 50 feet. Looking downstream. 2000x3000
The view from the bridge. Looking upstream. 2000x3000
That's it. I wasted too much time wandering the falls, didn't get home until after 5 PM. Tired.
