Converting my Silverstone FT02 Case to use a 4090

This case mod was not for the faint of heart!

CrustaR

I've been using Silverstone Ft02 since 2011. It's been through many builds. When I bought the Bad Boy 4090, I knew it wouldn't fit into the case as is. Have you seen the memes???

Thankfully I got the Suprim Liquid, but it was like basically having two smaller cards, with the radiator card requiring special cooling...somewhere.

I determined that the radiator card needed to go where all the legacy HD bays were.

Original build, look at those legacy bays on the left.I can't even recall when I last used that blu ray player.

It was time to get to work. I first unscrewed the outer steel case. Look at all of that dog hair. Gross!!

The horror..

I removed the legacy drives. The HDD wasn't even hooked up. I still used the SSDs on occasion. This was when more upgrades started happening. I bought a 980 Pro m2 drive to replace the legacy drives.

Legacy devices in the way of where the radiator needs to go!

I also had to order a rivet gun for when I put this all back together. In the meantime, I was drilling out rivets like a boss.

HD bays drilled out

Those bottom fans were looking pretty old as well and made a lot of noise. One was already dead (removed). I decided to replace them all with Noctua fans (more on that later).

In the meantime, it was time to install the 980 pro...

All my old drives (data moved to the 980)

I was finally able to test out the 4090, and let me tell you, it was a beast.

midway point of the build

The last part was mounting the radiator to the front using a random part I found off Amazon. I had to rivet the part into the front of the case to keep it still, then I was able to screw the radiator into it.

Whoops, scratched the front. That's okay, the outer shell will cover it.

A billion screws later, I had the outer case back on. I'm still waiting for the 90 degree cable adapter to arrive so I can close up the case, but it turned out pretty well. I also replaced all of the bottom fans with noctua fans, and the case is super quiet.

Final build. Pardon the dust, it seems permanent where the old lower fans were.
Front of the case where the radiator is mounted. Check out all the legacy stickers I kept from all the previous biulds.
