Back in 2017, I posted my first guide to Shacknews. Of course, it was a Destiny 2 guide talking about how to farm Exotic engrams. It’s been five years since I posted that guide. Five years of writing guides for Shacknews. Five years of playing video games, crafting guides, and delivering words to your computer screen (or mobile screen these days) about how to beat a boss, clear an activity, or find an item. And you know what? I want five more.
As a new bloke in the industry writing for a site that’s been around for almost as long as I am old, it was with great delicacy and care that I entered the team and community. But I was welcomed with opened arms, figuratively and literally. In 2018, I flew over to Los Angeles to attend E3 2018 and it’s there that I met the team in person for the first time. I received ample handshakes, high fives, and hugs from Asif, Blake, Bill, Greg and the others that were staying in the city. It was like meeting my family, albeit one that lives on the other side of the world to me.
Previously, I had always felt like a little bit of an outsider in this industry considering I’m writing from Australia. But that changed when I joined the team here. Every day that I switch on my PC and sit down with my morning coffee, I’m greeted by my colleagues with warmth and joy. I want to stop short of getting too soppy and sappy, but I love it here at Shacknews. Thank you for welcoming me into the community back in 2017 and thank you for being a place that I have relished coming to each day for five years. Here’s to another five years of cranking out guides, news, and everything in between! Now, let’s get into some Destiny 2.
PS: The embedded video is from E3 2018. I’d like to swap out my Halo: Combat Evolved answer for Halo 2. I think Halo 2 is more important to me despite the fact Halo: CE is the reason why I love the franchise. Man, what a dilemma. Also, at the end, I state that Destiny 2 had burned me. But now, I think it’s in a fantastic position. I’m actively loving the endgame.
