I play a lot of Destiny 2. Sure, I might not play as much as some others out there, but I’ve got enough hours under my belt and enough knowledge in my head to appreciate most aspects of the game. One thing that I continue to appreciate is the Cabal entrance. This militaristic race with strong Roman empire themes have the best entrance. Perhaps it’s even the best entrance in video games.
While most creatures and foes in normal games crawl up out of the ground or walk in through an enemy-spawning door, the Cabal use drop pods. Better yet, these drop pods aren't coffin-shaped things that slice through the air, they’re massive, heavy balls. That’s right, the Cabal slam into the ground (and sometimes Guardians) with balls.
It’s really the only enemy in Destiny 2 where you can look to the sky and see their approach. While the Hive and Fallen fly in on ships, it’s nowhere near as impressive as the Cabal landing pods. These things are fired out of cannons, and instead of stopping above the ground to deposit their wares, they slam into anything in their way. When you see them coming, you know you’ve got two options: move or get crushed.
There’s really no fear when it comes to seeing a Hive tomb ship phase in. Its little seeker darts are a pain, and sure, the Fallen Skiff’s turrets hurt, but you can mostly stand your ground. Even though I’ve seen it a thousand times, I always giggle with glee when I see the Cabal pods soaring through the air. And you know what? More than anything else, I want Empress Caiatl to offer my Guardian the opportunity to travel in a pod. Get rid of my ship, take my Sparrow, don’t let me transmat. Just fire me straight at the enemy.
