Yes, this year sucks. Yes, we are all busy. No, we don't have the time that we want to have.
Which is what makes Cortex so great -- we can try out completely bonkers ideas, like this one that I'm kicking off this weekend. Welcome to...
T+30 Minutes to Review
This week has been an especially amazing week for games, what with PS5 and Xbox Series X coming out. Additionally, Nintendo continues to sell a shitload of Switch systems, and they have an irresistible Game & Watch that I'm going to need ASAP.
I've been fortunate enough to get these systems, and a lot of games, but I don't have the time or ability to create a meaty, expertly informative review. Shacknews does a great job of those already.
Instead, I'm proposing some quick take reviews, extremely short snippets of thoughts after playing a game for as little as 30 minutes.
These T+30 Minutes To Review reviews should not be considered anything more than the rantings of someone who has no business creating a review in the first place.
But...I think it will be fun, and I'd like to give it a go. I mean, let's be real here, do you really need to play a game more than 30 minutes to give it a review?
Yes. Oh god yes.
But a cheeky first take with a massive disclaimer that 30 minutes is nowhere near enough to give a proper fully-formed opinion on a game? Sure.
Quick background: I've been honored to be involved with Shacknews for years now while the man with the briefcase helms the business and editorial ships, and I've been part of the industry for quite some time (more than 20 years now). I feel like that history plus the fact that I'm a dad to two young gamers (8 and 6) could lend a perspective on things.
Or not. I'm just going to play these things when I get a chance, and head to Cortex to drop some thoughts.
I appreciate your readership and encouragement, and hope you enjoy these completely irresponsible takes on games. Starting later this weekend with some irresponsibly quick takes...
