Happy Halloween to all my spooky and scary Shackers out there, this holiday just happens to fall on a Sunday this year which means skankcore64 is set for celebration! We've been enjoying our 25th anniversary all year at Shacknews and we've been highlighting some notable video games that also share their birth year with us. This time I have a special livestream lined up for another Nintendo 64 game, Wave Race 64. Join me as we take a look at the classic Jet Ski racer, 25 years after its release, live on Shacknews Twitch around 3:30 p.m. PT / 6:30 p.m. ET.

25th Anniversary Episode with Wave Race 64

The Nintendo 64 debuted in 1996 along with a handful of early 3D titles that have become some of the most influential in gaming. Wave Race 64 was the third game released for the console in North America, hitting store shelves around November 4th of that year. Originally referred to as "F-Zero on water" internally, the game found inspiration from a Nintendo employee that was fooling around with a Silicon Graphics workstation and created a tech demo centered around showcasing the programming responsible for its wave modeling. This demo caught the eye of the experienced Shigeru Miyamoto, who decided that they could make "something fun" out of it.

The rest of that story is history, and I'll be discussing and dissecting exactly that while I bound over pristine waters in Wave Race 64. Join me for the fun and festivities later today, exclusively on Shacknews Twitch!

I'd like to wish a huge Happy Birthday to the Nintendo 64 and Wave Race 64. This console is a gigantic part of my formative gaming youth and it's been an incredible journey so far trying to finish every game released for the N64 in North America. I'm getting close to completing roughly ten percent of the library so far, and I look forward to tackling the next ninety for Shacknews. I'd like to extend a massive thank you to everyone that has been a part of this website for the past 25 years and to everyone that supports our Twitch programming. Please consider a monthly sub to our channel if you'd like to see more great Shacknews 25th anniversary streams. Check out our guide on Prime Gaming for all the important details!

LOVE that game. I hopped on for a few minutes to watch before firing up the game myself. :)

Damn! Did it count that as a win and unlock expert? Good job, Hard is no cake walk.

Yeah. I can get first in the first two races in Expert, but it’s downhill from there. Haha

It’s gonna take me at least 4-6 more hours of just playing Expert to beat it, I think. We’ll see when I get back to it!

Expert is WORK. I hate that there’s no way to practice the ice map. I get to it and it goes not well. Haha

I played Expert a couple times and it's brutally hard.

One thing I do love about this game -- even in baby mode -- is how much the jet ski's up/down rotation matters. Put the belly of the craft against a wave wrong and you can get thrown way off course, or take a hop and dive into the next wave to avoid its effect on you -- it's the coolest. :D
