It's Vault of Glass time, baby!

The best raid ever released in Destiny history is finally back.

There are those who said this day would never come. What are they to say now? Wait, that’s a quote from the wrong game. Regardless, the point holds true. Vault of Glass is back. The Vex-centric raid that has teams spelunking below the surface of Venus to take down time-bending machines is here, and I’m ready to rock and roll.

It’s been a big two weeks of preparation. Outside of writing guide content and a myriad of other things, I’ve been hard-focused on getting myself ready to raid Day One with my mates. It’s even more critical that I was prepared as I’m also going to be livestreaming our run on the official Shacknews Twitch channel – so make sure you come check it out.

The fact that Bungie actually brought Vault of Glass to Destiny 2 is exciting. It was by far my favorite piece of OG Destiny content. However, it’s also kind of weird to have these relics of the past in the game, especially when they’re underutilized.

For example, the Cosmodrome has been added back in, but other than Strikes and the odd Lost Sector run, I’ve barely spent any time in it. I used to just hang out in the Cosmodrome, doing bounties, and exploring. Perhaps how I play Destiny has drastically changed from what is was back in 2014 – which wouldn’t be a surprise.

In terms of the Vault of Glass, expectations are set at a level that the raid will be exactly the same. Mechanics will be similar, areas and layout will be similar, with the only real difference being the addition of Champions. At least, that’s what I’m thinking. I very much doubt Bungie has redesigned entire mechanics and fights.

However, what is tantalizing is the addition of challenging Triumphs. These Challenges must be completed in order for the World’s First to count. That means one full run of the raid followed by a run to complete the Challenges. It looks like the Challenges might be viewable on Bungie.net. There’s not a lot of information to go on here, but I’ve already got my thinking hat on. Any thoughts on what the Challenges might be?

The good times don’t end there, though. The Season of the Splicer roadmap shows that the Vault of Glass will be getting additional difficulty levels on July 6 as well as “raid challenges” on June 15. Whether these raid challenges are the very same as the Challenges for World’s First remains to be see – I kind of hope they’re different. What I don’t want is for those World’s First Challenges to disappear.

When the Vault of Glass has been completed, and all is said and done, the only thing I’ll have left to do is to try and get that damn Aegis out of the Vault.
