Nintendo Switch Beats PS4 to 500,000 in Japan
Nintendo Switch isn't just catching fire here in the States. New data suggests it's doing very well in Japan too.
Nintendo Switch is doing quite well in its home territory as well, having sold more than 500,000 units according to the data analysts Media Create.
That figure, compiled from the first four weeks of launch, means it reached the half-million mark faster than the PlayStation 4. Sony's console took seven weeks to reach 500,000. Keep in mind, though, its sales performance in Japan was less speedy than many other parts of the world.
This also signals an increase week-by-week, since last week's sales in Japan were nearly 80,000, up from 50,000 in the previous week. We know that Nintendo has been working to get more stock into stores as the console has been consistently selling out, and recently announced it would be doubling its production. Nintendo has also said that it broke internal sales records in North America and Europe.
Part of that is no doubt due to word of mouth over The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which stands in a multi-way tie as the third-best reviewed game of all time on Metacritic. Our own review called it an instant classic on par with other landmark entries like Ocarina of Time. SuperData has found that it has a whopping 89% attach rate, despite being available on another platform.
Of course, all that success has a downside too. Scammers are offering the console at rock-bottom prices on sites like Amazon, only to take the money and run. If you're still looking for one, best to stick with reputable retailers, rather than go looking for a deal that seems too good to be true.

It's got too piss poor a battery life and a less than ideal size for it to be "ideally" portable. Partially probably was the wrong word but it's an obviously compromised system as far as being both a console (processing power) and a portable (form factor and battery life). Version 2 will likely fix the portability side minus the form factor problem and give it a bit of a processing power boost but that won't always be a factor given that games will not have always been designed for it.

It would, however, remain tied for third-best reviewed game of all-time if it wasn't for Shacknews' 9/10 review....
