Capcom may not port Xbox One and PS4 games to Nintendo Switch

The company is concerned about 'differences in the desired direction' of the Switch compared to more traditional platforms.

A financial briefing between Capcom executives and investors revealed that the publisher is researching ways to bring Xbox One and PS4 titles over to Nintendo's console/handheld hybrid, but some fundamental differences in the Switch's makeup could make it ill-suited for such titles.

"However, we do feel that there are differences in the desired direction and the play-style of the Nintendo Switch and those of the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One," reads one of Capcom's answers to a question posed by an investor. "At Capcom, we determine which platform to release a title for after considering the features of both our software and the hardware in question, believing we must bring the enjoyment of our games to their maximum potential."

In other words, Capcom would rather invest time and energy into developing a game suited for the Switch, rather than shoehorning titles onto hardware (processing power, GPU, controllers—the works) that don't make creative sense for one project or another.

Capcom was one of many third-party publishers included in Nintendo's preliminary list of partners following its announcement of the Switch last month. The company will announce more details such as the console's price point, firm release date, and a look at launch games on January 13.

This is another reason why 3DS games should work on the system. If it was designed more akin to that style of game, we would likely see more 3rd party support.

Ports for different control / feature schemes are likely quite awkward.

Depending on the success of the console, it's unlikely companies like capcom will make Switch exclusives that take advantage of the systems features.

That being said, I don't know why they wouldn't just downscale their regular releases to just be playable without the additional features... :S

This is fine. Give me games designed for the swtich, not down ported ps4 games. I'll take a new puzzle fighter over a gimped street fighter 5 any day.

Good. I think the Wii did a great job of showing what happens when you try to port games to the wrong platform. Even the ds was plagued with it for a bit (Ridge Racer DS, Mario 64 DS, etc).

Capcom had an early success story on the Wii with Zack & Wiki.... I want them to keep on doing platform-unique stuff like that! Let's see them make a new Monster Hunter or Resident Evil for this thing. I can't wait to see what they come up with.
