Shack's Arcade Corner: Popeye
Greg Burke is back! My hero!
Popeye is a 1983 arcade platform game developed and released by Nintendo based on the Popeye characters licensed from King Features Syndicate and Popeye the Sailor. Unlike most platform games, the player cannot jump; the only button is "punch." Check it out!

Popeye was one of my favorite games. The graphics and cabinet art were insanely nice compared to most games from that era, and it was just a super fun game.
We had one in our garage for years after my dad's arcade imploded. Always fun for a laugh and got a ton of play. :)
My favorite thing about this video is Greg having to describe who Popeye was. When I was a kid, he was on all the time. I think Greg says the game was based on cartons from the 60s in the video? The cartoons were from the 40s and 50s. The comic strip started in the late 1920's.
