5pb, the legendary developer studio behind such memorable games as Steins;Gate and the Corpse Party series, has announced it will be working on a Re:Zero visual novel, called Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- Death or Kiss.

The visual novel game will be based on the popular Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- light novel, manga, and anime series. Exactly what kind of story it’ll tell is yet to be seen, although given its work on Steins;Gate, we wouldn’t be surprised if it retold the entire story of Re:Zero.

5pb has yet to announce what platforms Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- Death or Kiss will be available to play on, nor do we know when it’ll be released.

If you’re unfamiliar with Re:Zero, it stars Subaru Natsuki who finds himself summoned to another world he’s unfamiliar with. He quickly befriends a silver-haired half-elf girl named Emilia, although they’re suddenly murdered. After being murdered, Subaru wakes up and discovers his “Return by Death” ability, which allows him to reverse time when he dies.

Re:Zero is extremely popular right now, so having 5pb work on a visual novel that takes place within its world is cause for a lot of excitement for fans of the series. Hopefully 5pb will work on getting its Re:Zero game published in North America much quicker than its previous games, like Steins;Gate which originally released in Japan in 2009, but is finally headed to Steam next week.
