Niantic posted an update to the Pokemon Go Facebook page confirming that the game has rolled out in and around territories where the Olympic Games will be held. "Central and South America - Break out the sneakers and Poké Balls, and get ready to explore the world around you. We are excited to officially be putting Pokémon GO in the hands of our Latin American fans, visitors, and the Olympic athletes in Rio."

We’re just a few days away from the start of the Rio Olympics, although if you’re from a part of the world where Pokemon Go is available, you could be facing some serious withdrawal as the game still hasn’t launched in Brazil. While the mayor of Rio de Janeiro continues to plead for Pokemon Go to launch in time for the Olympics, the game continues to grow in popularity. It appears the mayor’s request hasn’t fallen on deaf ears as Niantic appears to be working on launching Pokemon Go in Brazil.

The official Pokemon Go Twitter account revealed Niantic is currently “working hard” on getting the game launched in Brazil:

Launching Pokemon Go in time for the Rio Olympics would only make the game that much more popular considering Brazil is expecting over half a million foreign tourists to the country, specifically Rio de Janeiro. Given how Pokemon Go appears to have worldwide appeal, those attending the Rio Olympics could easily fall for its charm if they see other people playing it, especially olympic athletes.
