Xbox One price drops to $249 for a 'limited time'

Microsoft, once again, has dropped the price of its original Xbox One, but just for a limited time.

Microsoft continues to cut the price of its original Xbox One now that the release of the Xbox One S is right around the corner.

Starting today and for a “limited time,” customers in the US can purchase a 500GB version of the Xbox One for $249, while also picking up a copy of either Forza Motorsport 6, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Gears of War Ultimate Edition, or Rare Replay.

The OG Xbox One dropped to $299 just weeks prior to the start of E3 2016, which easily hinted at an upcoming announcement for a new Xbox One console. It appears Microsoft wants to continue to sell the original Xbox One to make way for the Xbox One S as we’re just a little over a month from E3 2016, and the company is announcing yet another price drop.

If this rate continues, we have a feeling Microsoft will practically be giving the Xbox One away this holiday season.

Do you care about 4k and a smaller physical size? If not, get this one. Performance will be identical.

But the 4k isn't for the games, right? I would get 4K netflix and that's about it.

Right, doesn't apply to the games - they would be upscaled to a 4k signal, I think. You would get 4k Bluray for sure. I assume Netflix would update their app to support 4k streams too, but I haven't read anything about that yet.

I would wait for the 2nd version. The dashboard (and UI in general) on this current gen XB1 is sluggish as a motherfucker, hopefully this version will be a bit more responsive.

The S doesn't have any more processing power, so I don't know why it would be any different. The problem is the software.

Oh, really? I thought it was going to get a slight bump in horsepower. Any idea when the faster one is going to be released?

Scorpio? Looks like Holiday 2017, but that will be a huge upgrade, not just a bump.

If they want to get back in the game and beat the Neo, they probably can't let that happen.

There's no reason to trigger this year. Scorpio is just going to be a better machine all the way around. I'd suspect it'll even have faster load time on non-Scorpio title just due to the better hardware.

Since I've never had an xbone why not get the cheap one now and sell it for $100 in advance of Scorpio?

ya, could do that. bit of a gamble on the trade-in or or sell-off is all.

I'm thinking about this as well. I decided to get a TV again after years of not having one and have always wanted to play the Halo series (played Halo 1 on the first Xbox and loved it) as well as Forza 6.
