Dark Souls 3: How to Respec Your Character

One of the biggest parts of playing any Dark Souls game is the process of building your character. This requires attention to detail, intelligence, and all around patience as you try to level the specific stats required for the class build you’re going for. But what happens if you accidentally put points into the wrong area, or if you just want to try a new build further through the game? This guide will showcase everything you need to know to respec your character so you can have the best possible build you’re looking for.
On the most basic levels, respecing your character means you’re going to take all the points you’ve invested in it, and completely wipe them away, while still retaining the levels that you’ve earned since your journey started. This means you can easily change up your stats to fit new builds without having to worry about re-grinding for more Souls or experience.
In order to respec your character in Dark Souls 3, you’re going to need to make it a good way into the game, to the Cathedral of the Deep. If you haven’t found this area yet, it is one of two areas you can explore off of the Road of Sacrifices, so head back to that area and look for a new path you haven’t taken yet. Once you arrive at the Cathedral you will need to locate a special area called Rosaria’s Bed Chamber. There is a Bonfire here, to make transportation easier, so if you’ve already discovered it then you should be able to just fast travel there. If you’ve yet to find it, however, you’re going to need to do things the old fashioned way and explore each nook and cranny of the Cathedral of the Deep.
An easy way to find this is to locate the massive sanctuary-like room with the two giants on either side. From here you’ll need to make it to the second level, where Rosaria’s Bed Chamber is kept. Look for the elevator on the bottom floor of the area with the giants. Ride it up to the top, and then climb the nearby ladder. Roll onto a sloped roof that isn’t too far away from you, and then fight off the enemies as you make your way down the path ahead. Eventually this path will lead you to a ceiling area in the Cathedral. If you look to the north you should see a ledge that you can reach. Either ignore the two knights nearby, or take them down, before continuing to the ledge, and further down the path to the bed chamber.
Once here you can chat with Rosaria and be given the option to respec your character, but only if you have a special item called a Pale Tongue. These items can be acquired throughout the game world, or by invading players and defeating them. You can only respec your character five times in the game, so make sure you make each one count. If you choose to respec, when activated the level screen will popup and you’ll be able to freely choose the stats you want to respec up to the level that you were before the respec.
