Heroes of the Storm gets Infernal Shrines Battleground starting today
The Infernal Shrines Battleground has been unleashed in Heroes of the Storm. Learn more about this map, and its objectives, here.
Blizzard has unleashed a new Battleground in Heroes of the Storm called the Infernal Shrines.
The Infernal Shrines continues HotS’ Eternal Conflict expansion as it’s a three-laned Diablo-themed map that has Heroes fighting to control shrines. Infernal Shrines will gather power periodically, which will summon Guardians Heroes will need to slay. The first team to defeat 30 Guardians will summon a Punisher that will hunt enemy Heroes.
Following today’s update, the number of Battlegrounds that will be available in matchmaking game modes will be reduced to six to allow players a better chance to fight on Infernal Shrines. The following Battlegrounds will be available to play in starting today until September 2:
- Infernal Shrines
- Battlefield of Eternity
- Cursed Hollow
- Dragon Shire
- Sky Temple
- Tomb of the Spider Queen
Maps outside of those six won’t be available in matchmaking game modes, but can still be accessed using Custom Games.
On September 2, all nine Battlegrounds will once again become playable in matchmaking game modes.

Played a game here today, and it was fun. There are three different types of punishers that your team can summon. One of which, the Arcane Punisher, drops those rotating arcane lasers from DIII which can make quick work of heroes that stand in it. Plus, if the punisher drops a couple next to a gate, it hits the towers and gate every sweep. This game is pretty dang cool.
