Fallout Shelter bumps Candy Crush Saga out of top-grossing games spot
Bethesda's Fallout Shelter has surpassed Candy Crush Saga in the App Store's top-grossing games chart.
Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout Shelter has shot up the App Store’s grossing mobile games chart since its release, and today, it sits in third place, a spot that has been held by King’s Candy Crush Saga for several months.
This is an extremely impressive feat for a game that was announced this past Sunday evening, but we hear many of our colleagues are absolutely hook on Fallout Shelter, even during the madness of E3 this week. It becomes even more impressive when you consider how much money King made from Candy Crush Saga as it’s reported the game has generated $229.5 million in the first quarter, which equates to $2.55 million a day in revenue.
“We’re very pleased. Fallout Shelter is doing amazingly well, with no real buildup,” said Bethesda’s VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines at E3. “To take such a light approach to monetization compared to other free-to-play games — we felt like we wanted to err on the side of caution and make it very unobtrusive, make sure it was fun first and foremost. So far so good.”
Fallout Shelter is a free-to-play game that allows its player to be an Overseer of their own vault. The player can help survivors by inviting them into their vault, and continue making life inside of the shelter as happy as possible by making sure everyone remains productive. The game has obvious influences from games like X-COM and The Sims and the only area where you may choose to spend money is by purchasing lunchboxes that offer various gear and extra caps.

Wish FB would give some kind of do-not-invite option for these games. I've tried to be polite to people that I won't play any of those games that require an increasing number of friends to progress. Loaded up Shelter, but haven't had time to get into it, yet. It sounds like it has a decent f2p model.

I agree moving people around is a bit cumbersome. I would like it if you could hit the gear in the top left that lists your dwellers, then tap their current location and assign them somewhere. That way you don't have to drag a person around your whole vault to see where they make the best contribution. I also don't like how you can get dwellers who have a high skill in one area at the beginning of the game, but no room to put him in to make him happy. Like I have a guy with a high C rating, but nowhere productive to place him.
Also, give pregnant women some sort of timer, even if it's only an approximation.
Lastly, make it that if you drag a person to fight off invaders, they actually follow the invaders when they leave the room. The current implementation is silly. "Well they left the room so I'll just sit here and do nothing."

I get spending a little on a time waster, and I get spending a lot on a great game where you're actually getting something (ex Hearthstone, not just time boosts). These people are basically spending $1000s at an arcade to play Bewjewled which is bad enough but even worse when there's a basically free version that's just as good or 90% as good.

i've spent close to 100 bucks over several months of playing Marvel Puzzle Quest. Just buying slots. I figure I play the game so much that buying extra roster slots let's me play longer. I don't get as many new cards anymore and i last bought a good amount of points during their last sale so I haven't spent anything in a couple months and won't need to for a long while.

I think I'd still prefer a better user interface on PC with mouse & keyboard, but that's nice for console folks.
Probably better than pausing the game all the time to do inventory management stuff with a gamepad, second screen for map maybe, seeing any debuffs, etc. Probably needs tablet size to be functional, although the oversized UI font sizes of the default games still probably work okay on a phone sized device.

you just tap them and see what stat is the highest and place them in the room that uses that stat. Alternatively just drag them around to different rooms and see what one has a high number and put them there. The game is not that deep/complex, you just have to learn what stat is associated with the rooms but again you can see that by just hovering a guy over a room
