Chattycast 42: Live from New Jersey
In which the gang is actually all in the same room for once.
The podcast is coming in a little late this week, thanks to a weekend full of Shack Summit revelry. The wait is worth it, though, since we gathered our staff into one room at the actual real-life Shacknews offices for a face-to-face-to-face-to-face podcast. Host Steve Watts is joined by Steven Wong, Josh Hawkins, and Asif Khan to discuss the Summit, DLC trends, cinematic direction, must-play last-gen exclusives, and the shame of easy mode.
Thanks as always to those who provided our topic suggestions this week: Ozzie, David Craddock, daggot, dael, and Hemtroll. If you want see your name in lights, keep an eye on Chatty to suggest topics! And, special thanks to Chatty user dael for contributing music to the show, and to Bryan "Doctor Games" Carr for production assistance.
Off-Topic: Take a moment to talk about the Summit. Give the listeners an idea of what's coming up at Shack.
Segment 1: How will the growing trend of AAA games like Dead Space 3 and Mortal Kombat X throwing DLC in players' faces affect the industry going forward?
Segment 2: As games continue to become more and more cinematic, when should games start employing film directors to direct the cinematic portions of games?
Segment 3: What are your essential last gen exclusives we should all play before we move on?
Segment 4: Do you ever play games on easy difficulty just for the story or experience?

To be honest, the company has a lot of things going on that we can't talk about yet. We will make proper announcements once the paperwork is signed, check is in the mail, forms notarized, etc... The company is growing revenue year over year and we are getting closer to breaking even, so that is pretty good news.

Enjoyed the episode, but had a couple notes:
Star Wars Battlefront - I'm a little concerned about some of the rumors surrounding the game. I'm a huge fan of the original Battlefront games and was kind of bummed that it sounded like Josh was the only person who had any depth of knowledge about the SWBF games.
I'm a little bummed that it sounds like space battles are out. That was such a cool addition to SWBF2 and it's a bummer it's not making the leap.
The latest rumor says there are only four planets in the upcoming game. It's going to be kind of lame if the game's just Tattooine, Hoth, Endor and the Death Star. I really hope that rumor's wrong. I love Star Wars, and love the Battlefront games, but I don't want to get nickel-and-dimed for maps (and this being an EA game, it's almost a guarantee that it's going to happen unfortunately).
Wii U vs. Josh: Don't do that annoying thing where you pretend to hate the Wii U. It's a good platform for gaming, and stopping the conversation for a pretend tantrum distracts too much.
Must-play Last Gen Games - Red Dead Redemption EOT. ;)
Fun show. Thanks guys.
