Evolve reveals its first DLC monster: The Behemoth
Evolve is getting its biggest monster yet as its first DLC monster, as 2K Games reveals the game's Season Pass contents.
A fourth monster has entered the Evolve arena and he's the biggest baddie to date. The appropriately-named Behemoth has entered the fray and developer Turtle Rock Studios acknowledges this monstrosity as the biggest of all the monsters. He will also act as the game's first DLC monster.
"Behemoth is so large, he cannot leap or jump," states the Evolve blog. "He moves by rolling across the landscape like a juggernaut. He can climb, but just as the hunters must develop new strategies, so must Behemoth players. Climbing is slow, and when you are slow, you are an easy target. It’s almost always better to roll away. He has the most armor, the most health and you do NOT want to be on the receiving end of a punch. He'll need it. Because he's so big, he's slower and presents a much larger target.
The big burly Behemoth will be available for $14.99 a la carte, but those that pre-order Evolve can pick up the Monster Expansion Pack that includes the Behemoth at no extra charge. A separate Evolve Hunting Season Pass is also on the docket, which will also include four unrevealed new Hunters and three monster skins. The Season Pass will run for $24.99. As a reminder, Turtle Rock has previously stated that Evolve's DLC maps will not be sold and will be available to download for free.
Evolve's open beta kicks off on Xbox One this Thursday at 12:00AM EST. For more, be sure to check out our most recent impressions of the game's PC version.

At least the maps will be free.

That's good to hear, and "Robb follows this up by noting that DLC hunters and monsters would be offered at a price, but those that don't own them will still be able to play against them in online multiplayer."
They should probably be reiterating all that before any mention of pay DLC like this. At least before people can own the game and know all the content is about. First I've heard of any DLC from this game is a $15 monster and that is a but off-putting. -
As long as the DLC hunters or Monsters arent overpowered compared to the base ones then it seems like a fair deal.
BF/CoD/Destiny practice of paid maps/modes just means those who have paid for them get a smaller playerbase to play with while the base game remains more populated. Splitting your player base up is stupid.

They are worth the price though, and you don't have to buy them for full experience; as I said, the game is big enough for a $60 product even without them. You take the stance which will be unnoticed by EA and rob yourself from great experience. I would also think that we should support good quality DLCs.
I'm writing all this because right now I'm playing ME3 and I'm surprised how good it is and how good the DLCs are when compared to other games on the market, and I would like more people to enjoy it too!
If you want to see really scummy tactics look at Destiny.

Yeah I really don't get leaping to the defense of this, the only person I know who would probably share his opinion is a guy I worked with whos parents are fuckoff stupid rich, bought him a 500k apartment and his entire job wages go towards what he wants, price on gaming / nerd gear is a non issue to him.
If he likes a game and wants more of it - he'll just buy it! but ... money isn't an issue for him so,....

I don't mind the way they do this kind of DLC. If it allows to me play against people who bought the new monster but I don't have to then that's great as it still means I get new experiences even if I can't be the one to use it.
If it means as a base monster that I can play against other classes that someone bought but I don't have to then great.
It makes it so you don't fracture the MP community unlike map packs and stuff like that. Payday 2 has this same model for it's DLC and it works great.

I know it's here to stay but it really doesn't make a lot of sense with a new and unestablished property like Evolve.
Most people won't have have any awareness with the full game is about and all the content it contains. What this extra money actually means for expanding that base content in any meaningful way. I know I won't know if $15 is a good deal for a monster until I sit down and play the game for a few hours, at least. It just seems alienating more than anything to people who were slightly interested in this, but don't really know what to expect and weren't in the alpha / beta.
I'm glad to learn that the maps will be free and you'll still be able to play with and against the other pay characters if people have them. That's DLC done right in my opinion. It's still not necessary out of the gate, really before they're up to the gate, especially when it's a brand new MP only thing and balance is always a concern and people want to know what they are getting and that they aren't being taken advantage of with this sort of thing.
Feel like they should actually let people get into the game before trying to sell them more of that game, especially when it's a brand new thing like this. I have to wonder if 2K is pushing it or if it was Turtle Rock's idea from the start. I have to imagine some of developers know this is going to spurn a few on the fence.
