Kingdom Hearts 3 being developed with Unreal Engine 4
Kingdom Hearts is going to get a serious graphical boost now that it's being developed using Unreal Engine 4.
It’s been quite some time since we heard news regarding Kingdom Hearts III, although today’s news is one that will certainly excite most fans of the series. It appears Square Eix has decided to develop the upcoming action-RPG with Unreal Engine 4.
Kingdom Hearts’ game creator Tetsuya Nomura revealed this bit of news in a recent interview with Famitsu. “Development is steadily proceeding as planned,” he says. “Due to the impact of changing the game engine to Unreal Engine 4, which we did for various reasons, there is some difficulty rendering images. And with the full support of Epic Games, we'll be able to progress smoothly."
We’re certainly curious to find out what these “various reasons” were for Square Enix to decide on using Unreal Engine 4 instead of one of their in-house engines. This wouldn’t be the first time the publisher went with an outside graphics engine as past titles, such as The Last Remnant, used Unreal Engine 3.
