More Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America figures for Disney Infinity 2.0
Disney also expects the Guardians of the Galaxy playset to sell tremendously well.
We're less than two weeks away from the release of Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes, and already, Disney is expecting big things from the sequel.
The openness of the sequel, combined with the appeal of multiple Marvel universes (including the Avengers and Spider-Man playsets), will no doubt be a huge draw. And with the huge box office success of Guardians of the Galaxy, that package is set to make a huge dent as well.
According to a report from Variety, the Rocket Raccoon stand-alone figure is already selling nearly twice as much as last year's most popular characters, and Groot isn't far behind in the number three slot, alongside Venom. This is based on figures when the items first went on sale back in July…two months before the game's release.
“The film is really driving all of the awareness” for the “Guardians” characters, John Blackburn, senior VP and general manager of Disney Infinity. And the sales show “just how popular these characters are and how they’re surpassing other popular characters that have been available longer.”
In addition, Disney has confirmed two more standalone characters for the game. Yondu, the intergalactic bounty hunter played by Michael Rooker in the film, will be playable later this year, while Falcon, Captain America's flying buddy in The Winter Soldier, will be released in early 2015.
Disney Infinity 2.0 drops on September 23rd for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS.
