If you're an active subscriber for Star Wars: The Old Republic, you can now take part in the free Galactic Starfighter expansion, which brings 12v12 starfighter battles to the free-to-play MMO.
If you're an active Star Wars: The Old Republic subscriber, it's time to saddle up and jump in your starfighter. As promised, subscribers can now access the new Galactic Starfighter free expansion, which brings 12v12 PvP free-flying space battles to the ongoing Star Wars MMO.
Subscribers will also receive exclusive rewards, including custom paint jobs, two pilot suits, and the "Test Pilot" and "First Galactic Starfighter" custom titles. There's no minimum character level required to participate in space battles and players will be able to customize their starfighters, as seen in the trailer below.
Subscriptions begin at $14.99 for 30 days. Players with Preferred Status (anyone who makes an online store purchase) can get Galactic Starfighter on January 14, while everyone else will receive the expansion on February 4.

It's actually pretty fun though if you go in expecting Tie Fighter you'll be disappointed. The ship setup area is pretty clunky though and there's quite a lack of info on different weapons and crew. I'm a bit sceptical of the long term playability but as a diversion from the main game it's enjoyable.
Free 2 players get it start of Feb, preferred players (anyone who has spent any money on the game) get it in mid-January.
