Red Baron Kickstarter aims for revival

The classic PC flight sim Red Baron is aiming to take off again, with a $250,000 crowd-funding target and a prototype video that shows some dogfighting action.

The classic PC flight sim Red Baron is mounting a comeback, backed by the power of (what else?) crowd-funding. Developer Mad Otter Games has announced plans for a modern Red Baron, with original creator Damon Slye in the cockpit.

Mad Otter is aiming for $250,000 in funding on its Kickstarter. The pitch video shows prototype footage using the actual game engine, and the campaign pointedly states that it is not switching to a free-to-play or subscription model. Ultimately, the goal is to make a 30-mission tour, customizable aircraft, historical aircraft, and both period-accurate and MOBA-style multiplayer maps.

Shacknews' crowdfunding policy requires games to have a prototype for front-page coverage.

I wish there was a renaissance of combat sims ranging from ww1 to futuristic, from air-to-air dogfights to submarine combat. With today's tech it would be a thing to experience.

To be honest, people would probably be better off playing War Thunder and just staying in the first tier with all of the biplanes. It probably looks way better and handles the same.

To be honest, no. Just no. It's crap compared to what they're planning and have done in the past. Sorry dude.

I've played War Thunder. War Thunder is fun. War Thunder is not a proper flight sim. Even calling it an action sim would be a stretch.

I hope they succeed and make a good game. I loved Red Baron.

Is this needed when we have Rise of Flight and some other pretty good WWI sims out now?

I thought there wasn't going to be no more kickstarter games for news here anymore? Or did that change again?
