Battlefield 4 performance and balance improved thanks to beta

The term 'beta test' has been somewhat diluted over the years, now often simply letting people play an essentially final version of a game a few days early to raise a little hype. DICE actually collected and is acting upon feedback from Battlefield 4's multiplayer beta, though, and a new blog post details improvements to performance, balance, and more coming thanks to the public testing.

If you've had poor performance on PC, DICE says in a blog post to "Rest assured that we're using the information we received to optimize the performance for the launch of the game." It's also ferreted out the source of abnormally high CPU usage on multi-core processors, and is working away on the bug which saw all platforms, but especially PC, stuck on the loading screen.

On consoles, it's making more controller options, and adding options to filter empty servers. The blog post also details loads of balance tweaks I shan't get into. They tweak balance.

DICE also actually used player feedback with the previous Battlefield game. How novel to use tests for testing!

Oh, and this elevator glitch is being fixed (I apologise for their mild cussin'):

Is anybody planning on taking off work on the 29th? I realized yesterday that I still have my annual use-it-or-lose-it floating holiday available and was thinking about using it for the BF4 launch.

I'll be off work on paternity leave.. so I'm looking forward to the release date.

I know it's not an MMORPG, but I'd strongly recommend you consider taking off the 30th or the 31st. Better yet, take off the 1st and make it a 3 day weekend. I've never had good results taking off work on the launch day of an Online-focused game.

Hmmm...that's a good point. I'd be more likely to take off the 4th, though, 'cause why waste a perfectly good casual Friday?

If you take the day off, the chances of it getting delayed or released at 11:59pm go up exponentially.

My thought is that if they release the 3rd-party pre-order keys before the 29th then it'll launch on time. Also, they've got TV spots running with the 29th in them.

based on past online-only game launches, it might be best to save that day off for a couple of days after release to be sure everything is ok

There's no reason to think BF4 will have a rocky launch. BF3 launched smoothly, and the server demands aren't like those of an MMO or Sim City.

Now you're talking out of your ass. Sim Citys servers are login servers and periodic checking servers, nothing else. 99% of the logic is on the client.

Have they said anything about the crazy short revive times for the shock paddles? I understand the issue with the medic dog-pile trains but it seems like I couldn't revive people unless they died within about 10 feet of me.

Yes, retail time for revives will be 10s (up from 7s).

slightly off topic: I'm so glad DICE is already working on AMD's Mantle with BF4. By the time Mirror's Edge releases it will look unbelievable.

Green Man Gaming was doing $12 credit for the game and $8 credit for premium. You could try the GameFly 20% coupon code that's in the DmC Devil May Cry thread. GFOCT20 maybe? Can't remember, search my comments history for today.

Ah boo: Reduced and rebalanced full auto accuracy based on rate of fire for all automatic weapons to balance low ROF weapons. Low ROF weapons were remaining accurate long enough to get easy kills outside of their intended optimal range.

That means the AK5C was nerfed :(
