Hmmmmm damn that is a tough question....
If Sony shows a game pimped with crazy Tessellation, high textures but most importantly all the foliage bushes, placeables can all me moved and have physics and you can interact with anything. Attacks cause everything to be dynamic basically something that is not static and you go "Holy Shit Everything! moves and is alive and has meaning", not only would the game look amazing and beautiful it would sound amazing and be nearly 100% alive.
This would do it. -

The scripts where pretty bad I almost think it be better if the demo peps would just shut up and say nothing and if anything let the dev say something or project lead.
That script was pretty bad I admit, was stupid but I was too busy looking at the moving hair/fur of Sabrewulf it looked really good and the 3d backgrounds and particles.

I really want this to not happen
not because I care about sony or MS in particular, but just so I have the opportunity to watch as a large group of gamers collectively lose faith and interest in these large scale investments these humongous corporations have made. we may even get to see it all burn to the ground in real time.

did MS really have that requirement for XBLA?
none of this really seems like that much of a change from the PSN/XBLA status quo.
the thing is, nobody really knows what MS's or PSN's contracting model is. all we know is that after a certain point XBLA developers started getting fucked, and usually it had to do with how they did cert/patches.

Biggest unanswered question regarding the PS4?
For me it's the load times / can a disc be installed / is it required in the drive? etc
Hoping it's not going to be a repeat of the PS3.
http://www.shacknews.com/chatty?id=30308186#item_30308186-
-
I know that all too well. Like I said on the PS3 it's a half-assed solution to get around BD read times, it's rarely the whole game being installed, and those games are still slow to load as it will read from the disc for the rest of the data.
Now I know digital games will run entirely from the hard drive, but I'm wondering if you'll be able to fully install any disc based game ( like you currently on the 360 for example ), and if the disc is required to be in the drive regardless. I'd also like to know what speed the BD drive is also.

PS4 pre-order

I just bought: 'PlayStation 4' by Sony
www.amazon.com -
-
-
-
1) You can play the fucking thing OFFLINE, as has been tradition since the beginning of time.
2) You can play used games and swap games with your friends, as has been tradition since the beginning of time.
3) Better hardware. This step will take a while to kick in, but give the system about 3 years and you'll see some breathtaking stuff.
4) Social features that tie into gaming, such as: watch your friend play his game via live stream to decide if it's a game you might want to try; share videos and screenshots from your games; let a friend play your game remotely to get you past tough spots.
5) More and more interesting exclusives.
6) $100 less than Xbox One.
-
-
-
-
-
Well I pre-ordered one
1) Cheaper then XBone
2) More consumer friendly DRM
3) Sony has a really strong group of several first party developers
4) Indie games support. While I will have a gaming PC to play all of these I do want to support it. Plus I may get a Vita down the road so having some of those games on the go could be really cool to
While I have little doubt I'll get an XBone overtime as they get their exclusives, however my game time is so limited right now with my new job (travel each week) and my shitty home life that I'll do just fine with my PS4, PC and 3DS when I do have time to game and get one down the road after a price drop and some really good exclusives.
Great conference Sony and thanks for focusing on games

That's one of the easiest things they can refine from now to near-launch. Hopefully there's still a priority on lightning-fast response, considering that was a priority in the XMB (even if intuitive menu placement wasn't as high a priority), and that Microsoft still has a legacy of sluggish Dashboards haunting them.
-
-
so, sony has the better plan for DRM and a better price point. though, i really dont care about the stuff MS put in place for the xbox one.
I cant say that any of the games they showed off really excited me though :/
i like integrated twitch on the xbox, and the controller has always been better. right now i feel like the few exclusives that remain are a bit more interesting for me on xbox, and I think the TV stuff is cool.
I'm a little disappointed in what sony showed game wise, because going into it i was more excited for it i think-
The exclusive games were kind of underwhelming from both sides, though I do appreciate Sony's interest in indie development. That's going to pay off big time over the console's life with many awesome games.
Can't say I care about streaming console games at all. I know some people are all up on that stuff, but twitch or ustream, don't give a fuck. Same with the TV garbage. blah.-
-
Well, exclusives were a big part of it last gen. For me it wasn't just the AAAs but the smaller downloadable games on XBLA and PSN as well.
I bought played just as many of those as I did the full releases, can't say their increased support for indies does nothing for me. It's more exciting than almost anything either company has put forward imo.

^^^ This. Most Amex cards have Extended Warranty coverage ( http://www.americanexpress.com/us/content/card-benefits.html ), so there's no reason to spend the $33 -- the 1yr Sony warranty will get extended another year by Amex, as long as you purchase using that card.

this FAR surpassed what i expected and i am really excited. HOWEVER, remember when the PS3 was $599 and you had to attack the enemy's weak spot for massive damage? now seven years later they are neck and neck with xbox in the US and slightly ahead globally
anyone calling the console battle of the next 5-8 years over because of the news thus far is being extremely hyperbolic and excitable.-
lol, most of these clowns are buying both systems anyways, its just a bunch of pent up butthurt rage from the 360 dominating the beginning part of the last generation, and in the end it was even, and it will most likely be even in the end this generation. When its all said an done, neither console is offering anything spectacular, especially to anyone with a PC which was bought within the last 2-3 years.
-
-
-
-
we're not even sure about launch lineups at this point. there were probably more PS4 games that piqued my interest than xbox titles, but then again i have no idea what's coming or available.
also they slipped in PS+ required for multi but since the microsoft DRM shitstorm they probably knew no one would bat an eye. -
-
I'm excited about Watch Dogs and Dead Rising 3, neither of which are exclusives. The only exclusive that really grabbed my attention was Project Spark which is an Xbox One exclusive. Madden also looked good, although I've stayed away from it for a few years now seeing as I always seem to hate it and regret my purchase.
All that said, I am uncertain which system I'll ultimately end up with. I pre-ordered them both and will decide later. Although I've never liked the PS controllers and I'm not counting on that changing but I hope I can try out a store demo before they are actually launched. I also never buy used games and I rarely sell my games so that isn't a big deal to me, and I am in favor of supporting developers as much as I can. -
-
-
-
-
-
-
eh, it is still such a microcosm of gamers, the ones who care enough to troll around online communities.
I work with a bunch of people who play games way more than I do honestly, but don't spend time on these communities. They were all excited after the Xbox announcement, and have no idea what is special about the PS4. They pre-ordered the Xbox One, and won't look at the PS4. Just a small anecdote, far from conclusive either way, but don't take these forums as gospel truth. Gaming communities are the minority. CoD and Madden players are the majority. -
-
-
-
-
-
-
Sure, people commenting on the internet are in the vast minority of game/console purchasers. But on the other hand, literally every person who buys/sells used this generation and/or still rents games (be it via Gamefly or a local store) has only one option next gen if they want to continue doing that.
-
-
-
-
-
I don't, considering their corporate culture and how things have been changing over there. Look at Win8. Look at GfWL. Or at Windows Phone. The entertainment division was more or less isolated until a couple of years ago, but once it started earning money and visibility, I bet it was taken over by people that don't have a good grasp of the gaming market.

PS4 will be awesome on military bases with limited connectivity.
"If you enjoy playing single-player games offline, PS4 won't require you to check in online periodically. And it won't stop working if you haven't authenticated within 24 hours."

What I find most refreshing about Sony's E3 conference is that they appear to have learned from how badly they fucked up in the early stages of the PS3's lifecycle. They set their console at a reasonable price and aimed it at gamers and game developers. I'm impressed. Props to Sony.
Microsoft, on the other hand, seems to have studied Sony's fuck-ups and thought, "Damn, we should be taking notes. This is great stuff!"-
Like I said before, much of Microsoft's employees seem to be coddled Seattle suburbanites who think bandwidth grows on trees, the cloud solves everything, and publishers who shout ceaselessly that used games are killing the market are more important than gamers who can afford 2 or less $60 games per year. And they previously kept denying that their viewpoint was callous, until Sony stood up and offered more in return for lesser demands.

I know I'll own an Xbone eventually, but it won't be until they drop the stupid Kinect. My current one collects dust, because when it's hooked up, it picks up ambient noise and misinterprets it as commands, plus it's not cordless.
Once they wise up and drop it as a requirement and it drops a buck and a half, I'll jump. -
-

its $60 and very few people seem interested in it (or the kinect) so is doesnt really get 'made up' per se

I don't think they will. I think they're more likely to try and show that Kinect is worth the extra money and tell everyone all that the Xbox can do over the PS4 as justification. They've got some good games coming. I suspect they'll ride out the price point for a year and then drop it. Or that's probably their hope. I bet they don't do anything till launch.
-
-
-
-
-
I was almost certainly going to stay in the Microsoft camp because I felt the vast majority of online gamers would stick to live. In light of the used game policy and the holy shit $399 price of ps4 I really think a lot of folks will switch to Sony and if that is where the online communities go then so do I. I thought Microsoft had this new gen on lock down but now I think they are in serious trouble. If the warranty is good, I am seriously considering a ps4 on launch. Best case of an Xbox one purchase was 2014. This sony press conference may have just sold me.
-
Go preorder a PS4 on Amazon right now ( http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BGA9WK2 ). You only get charged when it ships & you can cancel anytime, so there's no downside to it.
-
-
Just an FYI for a couple of people who mentioned me (thanks for the thoughts) - I'm blown.the.fuck.away. like BLOWN AWAY at the pricing of both the Xbox One and the PS4 in this country.
Considering the dollar is going tits up right now, I'm quite genuinely thinking they may consider a price hike in this region in the next year. Seriously, we're basically barely being ripped off at all, nothing like before. Just nothing like it, much much closer to the US prices.
Less than 600$ is pocket change, it really is. Amazing - well done to both MS and Sony on that aspect.
Amazing.-
-
-
-
-
Remember Sony is a Japanese company. The fluctuation in the USD-AUD rate likely doesn't matter so much to them.
Also they will hedge the shit out of their foreign currency sales. They probably already know the rate they'll be getting on the AUD to <whatever they care about> for as long as the console will be sold at its current price point.
