Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer, The Witcher 3 might
Given that in the future we'll all be jacking into cyberspace and diving darknets all the time, it seems only fitting that Cyberpunk 2077 should offer multiplayer. Developer CD Projekt RED has confirmed that its cyberpunk RPG will indeed have "multiplayer features," but is awfully tight-lipped about what form they'll take. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt might have multiplayer too.

"It will be a story-based RPG experience with amazing single-player playthroughs, but we're going to add multiplayer features," managing director Adam Badowski said of Cyberpunk to Eurogamer.
That's it. Multiplayer: yes. Check. ☑
As for The Witcher 3, multiplayer's technically only a maybe for now, but sounds likely.
"We're thinking about something," Badowski said, "but I cannot explain it now. You can expect some information later on. Sorry for that!"
Cyberpunk (or The Witcher 3) will be RED's first foray into multiplayer, but they seem to be quite a careful studio so fingers crossed it won't be just another tacked-on, box-checking feature.
As we've seen nothing of Cyberpunk beyond a CGI trailer, look, here's Sigue Sigue Sputnik's cyberpunk Love Missile F1-11 music video. A fair chunk of the inside of my head looks like this:

Alice O'Connor posted a new article, Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer, The Witcher 3 might.

I trust CDP, but feature creep and over-ambition is a poison that has slain many, many good developers before them. I know they've had pretty decent success with Witcher 1, then took a logical step up in production values with Witcher 2. But now they're developing two games simultaneously, AND making them huge open worlds, AND adding multiplayer for the first time? It's more a recipe for disaster than success. They should look to Rockstar or Bethesda as sustainable development cycles...each of those teams has gradually increased budget and scope with each title while still maintaining focus. I'm just worried that they are taking on too much, too soon.

+1 man. Your first sentence is basically so right it's unreal. Over-ambition and feature creep = doom!
They could MAYBE add it in for Cyberpunk but I think TW3 should remain wholly single-player. Mass Effect 3 was a fluke, the multi-player turned out to be pretty decent, but that was only because of the context of the game and the team based mechanics/combat.

Feature creep can cause problems for a developer, but that's no guarantee that it will. This is a studio with a great focus on making exactly the kind of game that they want, nothing more, nothing less. If anyone can make it work, it's a studio like CDPR.
Also, it sounds like the Witcher 3 multiplayer idea is early in design. If it sucks, they probably won't put it in the final game.
