Just in case you haven't become the controller yet, Microsoft has announced a price drop for its Kinect peripheral. Effective immediately, the Kinect will drop from $150 to $110--that's a $40 savings, for those of you less mathematically inclined.

Retailers have already implemented the drop. We've spotted the reduced price Kinect at Amazon and Best Buy. Target appears to have the best deal of the bunch, however. Not only do you get Kinect Adventures (standard with every model), you also get The Gunstringer and Fruit Ninja Kinect. Call your local retailer if you're interested in jumping in.

The price cut isn't totally unexpected, but it seems a bit early for the holiday buying season. Wonder what other factors are at work. Wii U? Naaa. Maybe MS is starting to clear inventory for a model rev, and market saturation before announcing its next console at E3 next year?

I got a kinect with my Star Wars 360 and surprisingly, I kinda like it. I have no desire to play a real game with it but it is a nice addition to my exercise schedule.

Standing in front of the TV waving your arms around is classified as exercise these days?

You don't think that playing Dance Central (as an example) is a form of excercise?

Not if you play it right. If you futz around and just wave your arms like an idiot, of course you aren't going to get any exercise out of it. Try actually dancing and doing the moves. It is just as much exercise as a dancing class.

what an odd price point..why not knock it down 10 to make it an even $100?

It's routinely been at $99 via some retailer sales ever since launch, this means we will probably see it down to $69ish during similar sales now.

$99 would look more appealing for sure but I still thing it's too much for how little it would be used.

If you didn't buy Happy Action Theater or Gunstringer then you can't really say that whole-heartedly.

Until HAT, it was probably the best use of the tech for a game, and is still what a point to as how to make a great Kinect title.
