Miyamoto wants to make a first-person shooter

Shigeru Miyamoto is interested in making a first-person shooter, saying he finds the "structure" of the genre "very interesting."

Shigeru Miyamoto is the man behind some of the most iconic kid-friendly video game franchises ever, from Mario and Donkey Kong to Zelda and Pikmin. But he'd like to dip his creativity into a more traditionally violent genre, the first-person shooter. Naturally, the way he proposes it sounds completely harmless.

"I actually do kind of want to make a first-person shooter," Miyamoto said, "but I don't have time."

Once he pencils in some time between Pikmin 3 and his latest hobby, though, it sounds like he's mostly interested in the mechanics of that perspective rather than adult themes or gore. "Rather than necessarily the question of 'What kind of weapon do I have?' in a first person shooter or 'What kind of effect does that have on an enemy?', I think that the structure of a first-person shooter is something that's very interesting," he told Kotaku. "Having that 3D space that in theory you are in and being able to look around and explore that -- particularly being able to do that in conjunction with another person -- is very interesting."

This came out of a discussion about the use of two GamePads, which Miyamoto says could enhance the experience by letting both players use the smaller screen to have their own virtual world. "Obviously that would be very fun," he said. "If you have two people doing that in the same room, that could create a very fun and unique gameplay experience."

While Miyamoto hasn't worked directly on an FPS before, he has had some involvement in them. He helped produce the Metroid Prime games and Geist, so he has certainly seen the clockwork from the inside.

I hope he gets a chance to do that, there's one perspective that badly needs more people to prove it can go outside "shoot badguys in a box".

If anyone could give it an interesting spin, it would be Miyamoto.

I'd have to go for 'amazing' on that one.

I bet he would find a way to do it without a "cover" feature or button.

Wow...fuck me hairy 70's style...that is quite possibly one of the stupidest, most useless things I've read on this site. Even Miyamoto clearly indicates he wishes no part in this...

I love how Miyamoto's picture straight up says "I didn't write this shit. Don't look at me."

Would I play a Zelda FPA (First Person Adventure)? Yes, would I play call of duty Miyamoto edition? Hell yes! just to experience a Miyamoto FPS! :)
