Assassin's Creed 3 first gameplay trailer debuts
Ubisoft has released the first official gameplay trailer for Assassin's Creed 3, giving glimpses of traversal, some introspective story bits, and plenty of dead Redcoats.
We've heard quite a bit about Assassin's Creed 3, from its new protagonist and setting to the new tools we'll be able to use for efficient kills. But seeing is believing, as the saying goes, and a new trailer weaves gameplay into story details on Connor's internal struggles with belonging.
Being a trailer for an Assassin's Creed game, of course, that quiet solitude and introspection is punctuated by lots and lots of stabbing. Connor tears through about a dozen Redcoats like tissue paper, meets an angry bear, and traverses the wilderness and Colonial cities. Check out the trailer below.

So far, just from what I can see in the trailer, this looks like the shot in the arm the franchise needed. I mean, it really looks spectacular. Trees > Buildings any day.
Now, I am however, a bit worried about the nationalistic rhetoric. Connor is half Native American, from what I understand. This is a touchy subject, like many historical and ethnic representations in media can be, but I wonder how much Ubisoft will explore the complex of otherness in the context of an indigenous struggle against colonization. The whole liberty bit however, made me a bit weary, considering it was BOTH the American and European nations that sought to assimilate and exterminate the indigenous population. Genocidal backdrops in fiction are always interesting, but it actually happened. Just some food for thought. -
