Halo 4 release coming Nov. 6

Microsoft announces Nov. 6 as the release date for the next installment in the Halo series.

It's been four years since we last helped Master Chief battle the Covenant. Questions and uncertainty have swirled as a new developer takes the helm of the storied Halo franchise. But it will all come to a head in November when Halo 4 finally hits shelves.

Microsoft announced that Nov. 6 will be the official release date for the game, the first for developer 343 Industries. Halo 3 marked the end of the first trilogy and the involvement of original developer Bungie, which left the Microsoft fold to explore new ventures. The data transition of the franchise to new developer 343 finished earlier this month.

The end of Halo 3 left many questions about the fate of Cortana and Master Chief. The new trilogy begins four years after the end of the last installment. Phil Spencer, VP of Microsoft Game Studios, said in a release that the launch of Halo 4 will begin "a journey that will encompass the next decade of 'Halo' games and experiences."

That's the same release date as the projected date for Black Ops 2 (Activision always releases Call of Duty titles on or just before November 11, Veterans Day). This is Microsoft and 343 saying, "We're not scared of CoD:BLOPS!"

well Halo has come out in the fall every 2 years so it's kinda just due to be around then, regardless of what the CoD franchise is doing

Halo Reach was September 2010. ODST was September or October 2009, but definitely at least a month before MW2. So why do they now feel confident enough to face off against Call of Duty, a franchise that sells best on 360? Are they really that confident? Or is their dev schedule so tight, they can't make October?

I think their sales will be impacted though.

does anyone have any hope for this since bungie are no longer the masterminds behind it?

Bungie made Reach. It was their last Halo game.

Oops I thought 343 did it for some reason

I read the Game Informer article and it actually sounded interesting - I'm looking forward to giving it a go.

Well so much for whatever small percentage of youth voters there would have been this year.

I don't know what happened after the first Halo but I haven't been able to get back into this franchise. I played and completed Halo 2 but it wasn't nearly as fun as the first. I bought a 360 back in December, played Halo 3 for about 45 minutes and haven't picked it up since.

Same here, I'd love to see the whole Halo series ported to PC, if I remember, Halo 1 and 2 were but none after that. Any chances this will ever happen?
