Join Garnett Lee on this episode of Shacknews Daily. Today’s stories: Robert Bowling resigns, a strong April for PlayStation Plus subscribers, and Minecraft leads the next crop of XBLA titles.
This week started with a little Twitter drama. Call of Duty creative strategist Robert Bowling unexpectedly gave his resignation to Activision publicly on the 140-character social network. There's a lot to look forward to in April for PlayStation Plus subscribers with the monthly freebies headlined by Shank 2 and Need for Speed Shift 2. And not to be outdone, XBLA has a nice selection of games en route as well, including Minecraft.

It would look something like this... http://www.shacknews.com/chatty?id=27839533#item_27839533

i like the editorial spin youre adding in there because not many gaming news includes that stuff and that would be hard to do with some talking head puppet in a tight sweater. the only thing missing is some onscreen text to go with what youre saying, especially when you are tossing up numbers and stats that i cant keep track of

I don't think you should aim for this. You are going to be two days behind if you aim for daily news. I want you guys to do some stuff, I want you to do good stuff.
Maybe you take your editorial portion and expand on that. The news is already pretty stale here by the time it is posted lately. After you take the time to film and produce a video clip, you are going to be even further behind. However, you could do some more editorializing of it and maybe you are on to something there.
You need to keep it unique though.
I do like that you published this into the Chatty, I really think the podcast should be published into the chatty as well, I might actually listen to it if it was. As it is, being its own little separate community I forget it exists most days.-

Is that what you want?-
-
It's not really about how it impacts chatty users, it's how it impacts the people that actually listen to WC. Like Xav told you when you brought it up before, it would be one hijack after another, as well as mashing all the warning questions and listener responses together in one unmanageable thread. Dropping a weekly newspost in here isn't going to make chatty people suddenly start listening in droves to WC. Most of them made up their minds on that podcast a long time ago. Not to mention that it makes things worse for the people actually consuming that content.

I don't understand the mashing all the warning questions and listener responses together in one unmanageable thread. comment. To me, it looks like it's already mashed together in one thread from the link you pasted to me.
It seems a little weird just to carve out one section of the content to segregate from the entire chatty on NuShack. Some people aren't going to listen to the podcast if it's in the chatty. Some people don't participate in the story threads even though they are in the chatty.
I don't think the hijack comment can be known for sure. I don't see story comments getting hijacked these days, unless it's Alice who wrote the story.-
Ok, I see that is a thread the week of the redesign, and it looks like one guy did all of the complaining and it was switched to a "feature" which doesn't post to the chatty.
Fine, whatever. The site didn't implode and people would have went on and adjusted like everyone else did during the redesign.
I am still of the opinion that segregating the community is a bit silly, oh well.-
The podcast community would be "segregated" anyways due to the fact that the majority of the discussion happens after the post timer expires. The majority of chatty users wouldn't even see the majority of the discussion if it was integrated. I don't think there's a lot of people in the chatty who are going to download/listen and discuss the podcast before it expires. Hell, I didn't even get to the cast usually for a few days when I was a regular listener.

The chatty thing has happened to me quite a bit lately, I can't really recall it happening that frequently with news stories. I'll try to do better on the chatty ones, but I know the last few were only by about 5 minutes which was probably the time it took me to read/watch the interesting link, then write a little post about it here. *shrug*
I've asked for them when I see I was beaten, and the Tebow one I was going to ask for it but got distracted at work and you told me it was nuked, to which I acknowledged Luna beat me by about 5 minutes.

We're taking the top stories of the day. If you read the front door, you'll have already seen the stories. One motivation for posting it to our news feed is that puts it on the GameFly app, where a whole other audience will see it. I also hope that if you don't feel like reading the site, having a quick vid to catch up on stuff will be useful.
As for timeliness--for the video there is a production factor, which we're playing around with right now. With regard to our page feed, John's just come on board to beef up news production but our crew cranks the stories out right there with every other site. Sometimes we get a story first, other times we've out something else ahead of any given story. If you read Shacknews a time or two a day, though, we'll have all the stories and we'll have them researched and followed up on whenever possible.-
-
I hope you read the other comment I made too about expanding the editorial side of things in the video. I think that would make it better than just reading the top stories.
Yes, I understand there are lead times in getting content cranked out, it just seems lately that you guys are further behind most places. Now, if you are going more in depth that can be forgiven, but I can't really name a time where I saw you guys take longer to go deeper than what some of the other places did.
If you are expanding on the topic in the video with some followup or editorial content, I think this could very well become a fast favorite as a new feature here. Again, I do love that this is getting pushed into the chatty comments, I think that is integral to keeping the community here together, but that opinion may be in the minority.-
Defo read it (I read everything I can on the site) and setting the balance for my editorializing is part of what we're going through. Tbh, though, right now I'm jamming on sifting through stories, getting the bullets laid out, and then shooting the thing. We get that down and I can add a little more color to it.

I would like to add that I am extremely happy to see videos being posted by the Shacknews staff. Back when we were doing our show there were whisperings of an "official" video segment but that was right around the height of terrible economy and Gamefly acquisition and lots of staff changes and I wish nothing but the best for everybody involved.
HAVING SAID THAT.....
2012 just might be the return of something fantastic.
