Battlefield 3 PS3 server rentals priced
Battlefield 3 has gotten its large PlayStation 3 update, and with it DICE is beginning the server rentals for the system. The company outlined its pricing model today.
Battlefield 3 is getting a large patch on the PlayStation 3 today, adding a number of tweaks and fixes. One of the biggest updates comes in the form of server rentals on the console, for customized configurations and smoother play. Today, DICE has outlined the pricing plans and how it will move forward with the servers.
The Battlefield Blog prices the plans at $1.49, $6.99, $24.99, and $64.99 for the periods of 1, 7, 30, and 90 days, respectively. The blog also mentions that it is limiting server availability today, but will be ramping up progressively. Within a week DICE expects to have maximum capability available, so if you have trouble getting in you can try in a few days.
The PS3 patch also brings the option to turn off anti-aliasing for better input performance. The patch will come to PC and Xbox 360 sometime soon, with the more general fixes and balance tweaks.

the whole concept of unlocks for this already unbalanced and volatile gameplay experience is a fucking joke and the handling of ea and dice is even worse. having this mmo style treadwheel to unlock items is already highly annoying and practically leads to people playing on meatgrind servers to pad their stats enough to unlock items. (which in turn was interpreted by dice in "its evident that people want maps like metro because its played!")
its even worse when you want to unlock items for the vehicles.
now they offer you to buy the items instead monetizing on a already broken concept after they have already gotten money for the game. at least other developers monetize this way only by making the fucking game free to play.
they already pulled this borderline dubious shit with the preorder when they wanted to make some items preorder exclusive until fans went batshit insane over it and they decided to make it a time limited exclusive.
having stuff like the overpowered famas for example being introduced in the karkand dlc but allowing it on regular servers is another questionable decision continuing the bullshit they pulled with the booster packs in bf2.
in the meanwhile you still can not make working custom squads, the game crashes randomly and many folks still need the game crash on the first map load so that they can play the map on the second load.

how abot a simple "unlock all weapons" option for unranked servers?
the unlock system is a huge part of whats wrong with games and lack of balance in them.
what they are doing is taking a problem they introduced fully knowing the drawbacks and solve it by a nickel and dime scheme.
its briliant on their part how people even praise them for this questionable conduct.
at least some paid dlc was a idiot tax, you could get cosmetic garbage like a haircut, skin or a dumbass mount. now they allow you to buy ingame benefit and some people actually praise them for it.
its a brave new world indeed.-

Yeah it does. You can choose to unlock everything for everyone and it's pretty awesome. I believe you can also force the default kit loadouts only if you want to.
But the server had issues with people not being able to connect plus some still complained about not earning any xp and progress so it was back to no password and random jerks creeping in.

What if the stock weapons were all around the best you can use in most situations? Look at those playing BF3 competitively -- a vast majority of them are using the stock guns.
The heavily OP weapon is the FAMAS (clearly superior in mid-short range) and that's getting a nerf in the upcoming patch.
Vehicle unlocks are a completely different story. Trying being a chopper pilot without flares or ECM and you're dead in no time.-

I just recently picked up the AK74M and the RPK74M and have been using them as my mains. The AK74M is surprisingly accurate with a heavy barrel, it is excellent for short to mid range where the accuracy and recoil of the AN94 are unnecessary and hindering. Holo, foregrip and heavybarrel rocks on sein and bazaar.

A91 with PKA, HB and foregrip lets me perform at all ranges. I've 1400~ kills on it. I tried using the QBU95B for awhile, its nice, but lacks the versatility. Nothing has really grabbed be like the A91 for engi guns. AN94 is great at med long, suppressor to drop the recoil and your choice of M145 or PKA. I can arc the burst into a sniper's face no problem, its the drop in damage at that range which makes it difficult. AN94 loses out in close range to bullet hoses like the AEK, MP7, F2000 and FAMAS if you see the other guy at the same time he sees you.

New weapons really just offer new ways to play. Here is a weapon chart so you can see what I mean:
http://symthic.com/?s=bf3
You'll see that all the Assault rifles have similar damages, only their accuracy etc changes. The last normal medic unlock, the AN-94, is an overall harder weapon to use than the default weapons.

No.
All of the unlocks for a class / vehicle should be available to all within 3-4 hours of gameplay within those different categories. That nearly eliminates the grind, and makes the focus more about the gameplay than leveling a meter running across the bottom of your screen. From there it will be more about personal exploration using the different loadouts, instead of just moving on to the next best thing.

lol new patch didn't fix the MAV exploit. You can still lie down on top of it to go up in the air. Excellent bug fixing dice. Bravo.
