Co-op 'never felt right' for Hitman

While casually murdering people with your chums is a right old laugh and no mistake, Hitman developer IO Interactive has decided that assassination is best enjoyed alone. IO tossed around the idea of co-op for several games in the sass 'em up series, but found it "never felt right," Hitman: Absolution game director Tore Blystad has said.

"Of course we have been discussing co-op for many Hitman games but it never felt right," Blystad told OXM. "Agent 47 is a loner and we have never found a way to give him a partner, because to be honest, he doesn't need one."

If you want co-op in an IO Interactive game, for now your best bet is the under-appreciated Kane & Lynch 2, though the middle-aged murderermen have distinctly less finesse than Agent 47.

Hitman: Absolution is slated to launch for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this year, one of our Jeff's most anticipated games of 2012. Another Hitman game will also come from Square Enix's new Montreal studio, which opens this year.

seems liek they're missing out on a good opportunity to get people to play the game who normally wouldnt. instant buy if it had splitscreen co-op. they could just make a separate co-op campaign like in Slplinter cell series. hell they could do a shit load with just using the other player to distract targets etc.

You ever played a Hitman game before? It has always felt like a Single Player experience and while some games should have co-op as standard, this is one game that it would really hinder if anything

ya I have played a few of them. they could insert a co-op campaign that's not at all like the sp portion. just like they did in splinter cell or the CoD MW games.

I'd rather not have them shoehorn multiplayer into a game that didn't need it like a lot of other developers.

Why does everything have to appeal to everyone?

the sheer idea that IO was even considering such a stupid move cements my opinon that this will be a Giant Pile Of Linear Shit

In what way? They trademarked a name, which may or may not be for the Hitman game we know will coming from Square Enix Montreal.

Is the name exciting in itself?

That's not necessarily the name of Square Enix Montreal's game, anyway. Hitman: Profession could be an iPhone game or goodness knows what.

Yeah. It should not be part of the main campaign but a separate stand alone mode.

As much as I love multiplayer and coop, this is probably the right choice for Hitman. Splinter Cell is much more suited for coop stealth killers, and DAMN YOU Unbisoft for screwing it up since Chaos Theory! Now maybe IO could put an adversarial mode in Hitman where you're both hired to hit the same target (not each other) but that would be tough to pull off.
