Battlefield 3 fifth 'fastest rising' search on Google

According to its annual Zeitgeist report, Google has revealed the DICE-developed shooter Battlefield 3 is the fifth "fastest rising" search term of 2011. The terms "Battlefield 3" and the related "BF3" saw an increase of 1,773% between 2010 and 2011.

Battlefield 3 was the lone video game to make the chart, snuggled between top searches for the as-yet-announced iPhone 5 and Casey Anthony, accused of murdering her 2-year-old daughter and who was later found not guilty by a jury.

It's important to note the differentiation between the Zeitgeist report's listing of "fastest rising" searches, versus overall top searches. The latter was not tracked in the report.

Both Google's Zeitgeist report and Trends show that Battlefield 3 inched out its major competition, Activision's Modern Warfare 3, as top "rising" search results for the year. Both games were announced in May 2010. Battlefield 3's reach spread across the world, proving to be top results for Norway and the United States of America.

Where Battlefield 3 drew more attention that Activision's shooter could not were results aimed at the game's beta release. Modern Warfare 3 did not have a beta, while DICE launched multiple pre-release tests for its title across multiple platforms, including an alpha test on PC.

btw, I love BF3 I play it a lot. But who cares how often it's searched for on google. It's a great game that I think everyone should play.

maybe because google is the biggest search engine in the world and this is the only game in the top 10 of the newest search terms for the year.

Does it really matter though? MW3 outsold BF3 by leaps and bounds, the only thing that this statistic might show is that possibly the next iteration of BF might surpass MW, but that's only if they find away to not just do the exact same thing over again like MW3 did.

Obviously doing the same thing works for MW so why not BF?

One person searched for it in 2010 already and now 1773 people have searched for it? Pretty good I guess?

I personally think it's due to their extremely aggressive marketing campaign getting the brand name out there. They are STILL running ads for it touting it's superiority over MW3, even if it hilariously claims to have the superior SP campaign.
