I was unaware that 2 large titles and 2 smaller titles in 5 years was milking Zelda to death.
As for Mario, I suppose there's an argument to be made that the character is overused, but the actual Mario platformers that have come out since 2006 have been some of the best games of their respective years.
Nintendo loves new game mechanic ideas, they just like to incorporate them into existing franchises to hedge their financial bets. -

First thing I can think of is setting up quick groups, but I'm sure they'll have like a gajillion other uses for it too. The wiimote definitely was nice for pointing though, so it could go either way. I bet if it's a launch title we could see a combination of both (maybe multiplayer? Have one dude control enemies on the map or maybe environmental things with the tablet and the other people run through with Pikmin?)
