DICE updates Battlefield 3 PC server browser options
To prepare for the holiday season and Battlefield 3's incoming expansion pack, developer DICE has decided to "super-charge" the PC version of the game with new server browser options.
As part of the massive 2GB update preparing Battlefield 3's incoming 'Back to Karkand' expansion, developer DICE has decided to "super-charge" the PC server browser with a variety of new options. The additions are based on requests and feedback from the game's forums and are currently available via the PC version's Battlelog menu.
"Highlights" include more search options for servers, such as allowing users to spot servers with kill cams and friendly fire enabled or disabled, "3D spotting," and filtering servers by specific countries. Additionally, players can share their "favorite Battle Reports" with friends via social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
Here's the list of features from DICE, shared on the official Battlefield 3 blog.
Server Queue
Last week we silently enabled the server queue again. Joining the server your friends are at is easy! If the server is full, you will simply be put in the queue and automatically joined when a slot becomes available.
Improved Server Browser
The server browser has been equipped with more search options. Such as kill cam, friendly fire and 3D spotting to name a few. We aim to continuously improve it and we’re determined to bring you the most powerful server browser ever seen.
Easier server joining with party
Joining servers with your party has been improved. Instead of setting up your party prior to doing a party join you can now connect asynchronously, without waiting for your friends to ready up.
Country filter
The server browser has also been equipped with the capability of searching for servers by country. This is incredibly useful for those eager to play with perhaps other countrymen or just want to enjoy playing on a server from your favorite country.
Share Battle Reports
You can now share your favorite Battle Reports with your friends on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. Use the share tab at top right of your report. Shared Battle Reports previously required a Battlelog account to be viewed but this limitation is no more.
New icons for navigation
If you look at the new top header you’ll see a new set of icons, providing quick links to various popular sections on the site. Having easy access to your dog tags and stats is always a good thing!
Statistics for Back to Karkand will be available next week on December 13th.
Battlefield 3's 'Back to Karkand' expansion is set to arrive for PS3 users today and is scheduled to launch for the PC and Xbox 360 next week.

Either I've burned out on military shooters or DICE simply wasn't able to recapture the fun of BF42 & BF2.
I played it all of one day and have been playing the Tribes Ascend beta or Skyrim since. I can't put my finger on it but the game just doesn't have the same vibe as its predecessors had. *shrug*-

I think it's a reasonable blend. we'll see how wake island goes - the video seems to indicate the vehicle count is still pretty high.
yes there are a few maps where it's mainly infantry, no argument there. but to that root comment about 1942 and BF2, I think it's pretty damn good actually. and this upcoming map pack really will show the homage to where this game has come from.
it's just a lot FASTER and the combat is more intense... from everything involved.
I am having a great deal of fun with it. -

there is a lot more vehicle combat than BC1/2. i never played BF before, so can't comment on how it compares to them, but the balance has definitely shifted.
They also seem to have removed a lot of the destruction since BC2. sure, you can blow out walls, but very few buildings come down now. In BC2 every building could be razed and in BC1 you could blow holes in the ground to create cover.

I'm still really enjoying it but I don't think it's a step forward from BC2, and while it has made a large number of improvements over BF2 I do think they lost some things that made BF2 really special. Specifically the commander role, more advanced orders via squad leaders (not just restricted to setting attack/defend on capture and bomb points), and alternate objectives like destroying key structures in the enemy bases like artillery.
I will say that my first impression was the same as people said above in that it is too infantry focused, but after getting really into the jets and thus playing on the 3 really big conquest large maps a lot, my opinion has swayed a little. They definitely managed to capture some of that old BF feel in those IMO.
But yeah, I do think it is missing that 'spark' that other BF games have had in the past, this one just feels like 'another BF game'. BF2 had the biggest changes with the introduction of squads, commander, orders, sprinting, etc etc. Bad Company added Rush and destruction. You don't always have to add something new but I do feel like more could have been done.
