Battlefield 3's 'Back to Karkand' content will be part of regular map rotation
EA has clarified that maps featured in the 'Back to Karkand' DLC for Battlefield 3 will be "part of the same rotation as the base maps" once the content becomes available.
EA has clarified that maps featured in the upcoming 'Back to Karkand' DLC for Battlefield 3 will be "part of the same rotation as the base maps" once the content becomes available. A tweet this morning from the official Battlefield account, which was since been deleted, originally stated that the DLC maps would only be playable in a "separate map rotation," much like Bad Company 2's 'Vietnam' DLC.
EA confirmed the original message was incorrect to Joystiq. When asked if future downloadable content would follow the same policy, EA noted that it has yet to announce details for future DLC and it currently focused on launching the Karkand content.
Battlefield 3's homage DLC 'Back to Karkand' launches in December and features four "classic" maps from Battlefield 2. Though the content will be made available for $15 when it launches, it will be made available for free to users that ordered Battlefield 3 prior to its October 25 launch date.

Steal or whatever, it doesn't change the fact that those should be in the game and even if the maps were not made its a really high price.
The maps are made, and if for whatever reason you cannot preorder it or you doesn't want to preorder it, you have to pay for it, something that had to be there in the first place.
Its like if cars were sold with 4 seats if you reserved one before they were made and if you disnt reserve it they removed 2-3 seats and you had to buy them after.
And its not whinning im just stating my opinion. And if your only argument to make me stop saying my opinion is that i chose the wrong word (english is not my primary language)... then i find that your words lack weigh.-

Your arguement doesn't hold water. It's like saying the sports rims are made so your car should have them for free. No they're made to be sold as an addon, just like the map pack. Holding back something from sale is NOT robbery or stealing. Just cause it is made does not entitle you to it. Of course if you could explain otherwise I'm all ears.

If the cost of the maps is really high compared to the size / quality of the product its practically stealing, and it is.
And even if the fact that the maps were popular made the price rise, they were there in the first game to begin with, so separating something that was there from the main product to sell them at a high price is kind of a steal.
In what you said, imagine they removed the seats, yea it would still move but it wont be the same (well in the car even more because it will be a security risk xD).
And here is a important point : but not having the seats wont lower the price of the car. Then they will sell you the seats for 1/4 of the total price of the car (they are selling the maps at this ratio), but oh if you preordered a car you wont have to pay 1/4 extra more of the car, the ones that preordered are happy yea, they give you something advertised as "free", but the rest are punished instead of not having X benefit from preordering, because as i said the maps were there in the first game, its not an addon, its something that they artificially made an addon.
If karkand wasn't there in the first game and they weren't selling it at a 1/4 of the price of the game, then it will be ok, but thats not the case.
If it was like in warhammer retribution in wich the price of the product was lower than average of the games and then they sold extra equipment for the campaing at the begining and other things along the way, then thats totally ok, because you didn't have to pay for the extras in the price of the game and then pay again for the extras when you want them.
And the price isn't high either except the skin packs, wich aren't a game changer (or fragment the comunity), they just make you look badass :).-
You don't know much about map making do you? You think they just imported the maps and tweaked a few things? They have to build whole new assets, cause it's a whole new engine. Of course they'd resuse assets from the base game, but actual work has to go in to make the maps work for Frostbite 2. They are in fact, not already in the 'car'.

That should only apply to real life choices, not buying a fucking video game. Plus there's already risk built in -- even if a lot of other people like it after the fact, there's no guarantee that a particular person will like it.
Plus it shows a real lack of confidence in the product on the publisher's part. -

Look, life is about making choices. If you choose not to pre-order, then you miss out on getting the Karkand pack for free. So you miss out. That's the consequence of YOUR choice. It's called the pros and the cons, like anything else. Why don't you explain to us all why you feel you are entitled to the map pack? Cause if I thought like you I'd tell Toyota my pickup should come up with all the accessories JUST BECAUSE.

You are an odd fellow. Gamers who were around before DLC know that this kinda shit is abuse to the customer and harms the community. Someone who comes in later and buys the game gets split from the community when the map changes and they don't own that particular map. Not everyone has 15 bucks laying around after spending 60 dollars on a video game, and thus causes fractures in the community.
-
Buddy, way to go on your assumptions. I'm 31, I was around before DLC. I too am worried about a fractured community but gaming is not the same as ten years ago. Games take a lot more money to make, a harsh reality that people love to ignore. As long as this is handled well, I don't see a problem. Don't have a DLC? Untick it when searching for servers. Also we'll see how much traction this gets. If a lot of people get it, then no problem win for everybody. If the response is poor, and it's easier to track than ever, EA will stop because it's unprofitable.
And anyway the point of this sub thread was whether or not people should have pre-ordered or not. As I've said above, it's a choice, so it comes down to the road taken or not taken, just like a lot of things in life.

This is the same thing as BF2. Servers with the new maps mixed in the rotation will empty out when they change to those maps. So eventually there will be servers running vanilla only and servers running Karkand only.
As the game gets older and more people buy it the number of people without Karkand will increase.
