Hitman: Absolution video teases gameplay, shoot-out

Square Enix and IO Interactive have shown off a short gameplay teaser in preparation for a full uncut playthrough of the stage releasing tomorrow.

Update: A full video walkthrough has been released.

You can get a look at Agent 47's return in Hitman: Absolution. Publisher Square Enix gave us a teasing snippet of gameplay footage today. In it, we see our anti-hero infiltrate an otherwise secure Chicago library and start thinning the herd one-by-one. But be warned: the trailer doesn't really show off a stealthy approach.

IO Interactive has been saying the right things for Hitman fans, promising a hardcore mode for those who take their stealthy hits seriously. Check out our E3 preview for more details.

It looks good, but I'd rather see a silent assassin run through.

That looks really good. How much story would I miss if I've not really played any Hitman?

I've only played the last game, and it seemed pretty self contained to me. I'm guessing re-occurring main characters, but that's it?

And the last game it TOTALLY worth playing. Grab it on steam. Still a really fun and good looking game despite it's age.

I suspect Absolution will make a lot more sense if you know what happened in the last game, although that's assuming they don't do a thorough recap.

looks like its going to have the same limitations as the previous games like magically changing clothes, not a true "open world," lots of scripting, but still going to be fucking awesomeeeeeeee

So I'm guessing if you're super sneaky/silent assassin status you probably won't encounter the helicopter? Hope that event isn't forced onto you.

Looks really awesome to me. Usually the first level is pretty linear and scripted like that, so I'm not too worried. I've played Blood Money so many times over, it's not even funny. I'm excited for this one!

My guess is this will resemble the PC-era Hitman games about as much as modern shooters do Raven Shield. But a lot of people seem to like Splinter Cell: Conviction, so maybe it'll be a different kind of fun.

          October 10, 2011 10:51 AM

Yes. And it was fairly linear. It wasn't 'this person must die.' and thats that. It was more metal gear solid w/ some 'social subterfuge' than it was a hitman game like blood money. Yes, it looked good, but no it isnt the brutal 'you can do this in 1000x ways' type of game blood money was.

eh, the scripted sequence with the Heli is pretty damning.

Granted, it's a single event taken from the entire game. But it has a very linear feel for it at that point.

I liked Vegas(2) more than I did RS but enjoyed SC1 and Chaos Theory more than Conviction; when it comes to Hitman I get real spergy about the details: this version looks like a lot of fun--like Conviction--but it loses the appeal of nonlinear open level design and--this above all--47 is not Desmond Miles and this new superhero vision mode is very silly.

        It looks extremely dumbed down.

I did actually enjoy Vegas 1, but it was very little like RS. Can't play Vegas 2 due to hardcoded 65 FoV but mechanically it seems to keep the good stuff from 1. It's no surprise, though. It would be silly to expect a multi-platform title to behave like a hardcore PC one.

It's not the scripted sequence I'm disappointed about (could just be a tutorial mission) it's the cover system and rechargeable health i don't like! I can see the chest high walls being everywhere now *shudder*

Looks more like Batman: Arkham Asylum crossed with Call of Duty. Not sure what I think of it. The graphics are certainly pretty, and the atmosphere is cinematic, but I kept thinking that "real" police officers would be taking their situation a little more seriously. Why were they just strolling around casually? Why not guns drawn, fanning out and quickly clearing each nook and cranny? Because they whole thing was a staged carnival ride, not real a tactical simulation.
