I always knew I was going to buy this game.. because I love id games... there is nothing quite like and id-made game. But I wasn't crazy excited about it until I saw the game running live at PAX East. From that point on I've pretty much been counting the days till I can have this game. I think Doom3 haters and others are going to be surprised with this one... this is the biggest id release since Quake 3. It's going to be huge and it's going to be awesome! I still can't believe they were running the demo on the 360... it looked so gorgeous.

-id Game
-gorgeous new Carmack graphics engine with essentially no repeating textures (unless the artists want to repeat them)
-60fps on the consoles (if you are playing it on that)
-id shooting mechanics (which are always excellent)
-RPG elements: crafting devices, somewhat open world with quests and actual story and fleshed out characters
-a driving engine which sounds like it has driving mechanics equal to or beyond most driving games
-huge detailed environments both internal and external
-interesting looking AI (when I saw the game at PAX the 'bad guys' would come at you in intelligent looking ways.. the animation is amazing and they will hang from pipes, jump over railings, duck behind boxes - very cool)
-that boomerang thing... looks like a lot of fun
-I could keep going but I should probably work

Dark Souls intrigues and disappoints me at the same time. On the one hand, I'd love to experience the challenge and hitting monsters with sharp pointy things never gets old. On the other hand, the desaturated gritty green/brown visual style, the awkward looking animations/camera, and the lack of a compelling story does not seem all that appealing. Beyond that, something just seems a bit off about it. For example, how it says "YOU DEFEATED" in big bold letters across your screen after you kill a boss. It's charmingly retarded, but retarded nonetheless. *braces for screaming fanboy impact*
