Weekend Confirmed Episode 43

123
Whatcha' Been Playin? gets off to a big start this week with a lively discussion on the windup to the end and boss fight in Uncharted 2, first impressions of LittleBIGPlanet 2 and Ghost Trick, and, of course, an update from Cataclysm. Garnett, Jeff, and Billy then move on to your continuing comments on the topic of reviews before considering whether you can be addicted to buying games and what happens when a pay-to-play MMO goes free-to-play. Top stories like the brewing storm over Splosion Man developer Twisted Pixel calling out Capcom mobile for ripping off their game, anticipation of the Battlefield 3 unveiling due to come at GDC, and rumors of a Final Fantasy XIII sequel finish the show on a strong note in the Front Page.

R.I.P. Leahy-less Weekend Confirmed. If a new hardcore PC gamer is added to the cast, I may resubscribe in iTunes.

I actually agree with this. Brian is completely eclipsed by the unique perspectives of Garnet and Jeff. Brian never surprises me; he's a gamer through and through, but his opinions are always the mainstream opinion, which I can always read on countless message boards and websites. There's nothing wrong with his opinions, but when there are two other speakers who are constantly providing thought-provoking ideas and perspectives on games and gaming in general, Brian just sticks out as the boring guy in the corner. I don't want him to change, nor do I think he should change, but I guess I like something a little out of the ordinary more than something that is completely predictable.

He seemed to be the only one that knew the mechanics of games inside and out. Brian came from and was more or less the voice of latest chatty on the podcast; while Garnett and Jeff reference NeoGAF more than the site this is hosted on it seems.

I'm not saying the GAF is bad but Brian was the last tie to old shack after Remo and Faylor left.

Actually, Alice is the longest tenured Shacknews editor. Leahy came in from G4 last year IIRC.

I didn't know or care about "old shack" anyway. I've always found the "back in the good ol days" mentality on websites pretty pathetic.

Brian struck me as someone who was all talk.

So, uh, in other words... You don't actually agree with the OP?

Yeah, it was a typo. I meant that I disagree. I like Brian but I never felt he was a good fit with Jeff and Garnett. I'd like to see Brian do a podcast with two other PC-centric gamers as I bet he would fit right into that.

Boooo, is he gone from the shack too? And where is he headed to?

I enjoyed the hardcore opinion he brought to the table. What other hardcore gamer(but educated/in the industry) podcasts are there out there?

I'm so glad my reading comprehension failed that time, but still, no Leahy? *even sadder face*

I have to say I feel kinda of betrayed that we didnt even get a goodbye from him I mean I've spent six months listening to this podcast and then one of the hosts just leaves!?!

Yeah it's unfortunate that Brian turned out to be a modern day Judas Iscariot. The only thing I'm left wondering is, did somebody give him thirty pieces of silver to betray us or was it that Satan simply entered his body as it was written of Judas in the Gospel of Luke. I'm not sure which scenario is more upsetting, though I suppose it's moot at this point.

I guess it's unclear where he's headed now but if dude goes and buys a field and then trips and breaks his head open which then somehow causes his bowls to gush out, I'll be the first to say, "I knew this would happen".

He was the main reason I listened to the show. Very articulate and had a totally different perspective than all the console-only people that are on every other podcast.

      sadface =(

I'm a bit surprised how sudden it was. No farewell chatty post, no "this is my last episode of WC" announcement.

Yeah I know, but usually it's at least mentioned in the news post associated with the chatty when someone leaves.
