    for once i agree with notch's decision 100%. the savefile format and the modding API are very badly needed. once the modding API is put into place you will see a LOT of new gameplay opening up from people making mods

    I'm with you. I still get to build shit. The drop rate of seedlings is not a deal breaker for me.
    
    I'd like to see nether gates work in SMP. Unfortunately I guess that is a ways off.

  how do you setup a private server? I don't see the "private" field that many sites say should be false.

    I don't know what you mean by private, your server doesn't announce anywhere or get listed anywhere. Your players just connect to the ip. The only setting I can think of is the online setting in the server.properties file.
    
    Otherwise if you want to protect your server your best bet is hmod and setting up groups for your users so that people you know get builder access (can change blocks) and anybody else who joins gets default access (cant edit anything)
