I have added a switch at the base of the hill of my town. I've used my latest design for this switch.
There are two paths leading away from this switch that have yet to be completed. One going north to ShadySands and one going south to Wang and Freehatistan. The other two destinations (my town and the main line back to Mancave, etc.
Unlike the main line, I typically like to build the track following the ground - about 2 to 3 blocks above the ground. This is so that mobs don't mess up the track, but it isn't an eyesore either (tree can be planted to 'hide' the tracks. I also try to follow the land, attempting to make any bridges at the narrowest gap, like what would be done in the real world (to keep 'costs' down).
I've started on the two tracks enough to get outside my town's claimed area, but haven't gone beyond that much. Anyone who want to continue of finish off is welcome to.
NORTHERN AREA:
I noticed Zook of Trebblant was building a station. We need to figure out what we are going to do with that Northern Junction. I've fit a single switch in a junction, but I think the junction is currently too small for a 3 or 4 way switch.
Options as I see them.
1. the northern junction (NJ) just directs you to each town in turn and then back to Penis Island (PI), no way to alter course.
2. put a switch in NJ that lest you choose between Endor or Tremblant, returning from either brings you to PI. Worry about Edo when a station there gets built.
3. put a switch in NJ that you choose Endor or Tremblant + Edo (as they are closest together so least out of the way). Tremblant + Edo means one of the switch route would take you to the one town then the other then back to NJ. Returning to NJ from Endor or the Tremblant + Edo route brings you to PI.
4. re - route the tracks to stop at Tremblant where you can choose to go to Edo, Endor or back to PI. Would need permission from Tremblant to see if they want the traffic.
5. Your idea here ____________
What do you think? I'm of the opinion that the larger the number, the better the option. -
Launch Outpost #7 is pretty much finished.. Not really happy how the rocket turned out, I think the silo looks cooler than the actual rocket :/

Attn: Shadowdane mods: Please activate the stargate at X: 4349 Y: 92 Z: 544 with the name "SnowLodge". This stargate provides safe access to the large snow biome in the far south and should enable colonization of that region.

Thanks!!

Hmm... those signs are spread over a very large area. That snow biome (with 10 signs) is basically the same size as the area of all of our settlements near spawn (with 27 signs). The rest of the server is scattered with landmarks being noted by explorers via signs.
I was not aware of a policy regarding this. I certainly didn't perceive this as "crazy" "spam" "everywhere" that needs "serious" removal (perhaps the reaction is due to them appearing all at once requiring an investment of time to read them?), but I will consolidate the two major clay areas into two signs and remove the dungeon signs as well. Note that clay is far more rare than all of the floating mountains that have been marked with signs to date and I think the residents of the server find such signs very useful.

Hey folks, bit of a newbie question here but perhaps one of you can help :)
I've been playing for a fair few hours now and have established an initial base and built myself a rather nice (although basic) house of sorts for aesthetic purposes, both of which have a series of fairly random tunnels going downwards. It was only by luck today that the two different mines connected and I have one complete system. Is there any better way of organizing everything other than just counting down blocks? At his point in the game I don't really know what I should be doing, I'm pretty sure I'm not mining efficiently and I don't really know where to go from here. Anyone know any tips/links that might be helpful? The ones at the top are great but I think I need a more intermediate guide, if you get me.-
Information overload on mining techniques: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=28299
If you only check one thing, watch this video, it explains branch mining fairly well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Az4KihqqRGk -
