The closed beta for Unknown Worlds Entertainment's mod-turned-game Natural Selection 2 will be kicking off tomorrow with access being granted to the first 10,000 pre-order customers, reports Joystiq. Those that have already pre-ordered are already included.

Natural Selection 2 can be pre-ordered for $34.95. The beta will be handled through Steam and will be patched throughout the remainder of development until finally transforming into the final version of the game. Previously, a playable alpha had been released for those that pre-ordered the game's special edition back in July.

If that wasn't enough, Joystiq has a new, exclusive trailer of the Fade class embedded below.

Looks very promising, but I'm not sure I'm willing to plunk down $35 on this yet... Anyone here played enough of Natural Selection to sell it to me?

For $35, yeah, it would need to be proven to me as well to be a fun game with lots of replay value. But I preordered a few months ago for only $20, in part because they said they'd be raising the prices afterward, (though I didnt know they'd nearly double the price!) and in part because I heard only good things about NS1. I can't wait to try out the beta tomorrow evening!

On a side note, I bought Heroes of Newerth (preordered anyways) a while ago for $35, and have gotten well over 750 hours out of it so far! I wouldn't complain if I got 1/4 as many hours out of it, and paid $50. I'm sure that the cost will justify itself if it's fun enough with enough replay value. Here's hoping it turns out to be a great game that lasts years :)

I bought it before the alphas started and even though the alphas have been quite rough around the edges I can see the end goal they are aiming for and it is looking fantastic.

I agree. The great team, and the decent part of the Unknown Worlds community excites me for what is to come from NS2. It's already made quite a bit of improvement from the first day of alpha, and considering how good NS1 was I'm positive in the abilities of the team to successfully create what they imagine.

ON A SIDE NOTE, that fade looks so goofy... it makes me think the skulk is a kitten, and the fade is the awkward adolescent version of a cat with lanky legs and a big face.

The original Natural Selection? Yes. NS2? I've played a bit.

NS2 is feeling pretty broken right now- which is to be expected, coming from alpha and moving into beta. It's certainly rough. But hey, few games aren't.

The original Natural Selection though was my favorite game ever, still holds that spot. The teamwork was simply on a level that no game has since met- finding a way to encourage you to work together and get to know/rely on your team without completely hindering you. The teams that won TRULY worked together, those that didn't... well, didn't.

On top of this, the game had huge amounts of variety, a large tech tree, and could become absolutely epic. I adored it.

And avoid "co_" maps at first.
