OutRun Online Arcade Being Pulled From Sale

Sumo Digital's downloadable Ferrari racing game OutRun Online Arcade has been pulled from sale on the PlayStation Network and will disappear from Xbox Live Arcade at the end of next year, Eurogamer reports.

"Due to the expiry of the contract with Ferrari, OutRun Online Arcade will remain offline on PSN but will still be available on XBLA until Dec 2011," publisher Sega told the site.

OutRun Online Arcade was released in April 2009 on Xbox Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). The PlayStation Network edition was not released in North America.

A number of Midway titles were similarly pulled from Xbox Live Arcade earlier this year due to, in the words of Microsoft's Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb, "evolving rights and permissions." Those who had already purchased the games could still play and re-download them, as shall most likely be the case with OutRun Online.

Is OutRun any fun? I used to like it in the arcade, but coming from Pole Position it was easy to like.

Yes, I thought it was a perfect antidote to dour racing sims with realistic handling.

I loved it in the arcade.

Yes, the original holds up quite well if you're into those old super scaler games, and the newer games in the series stay true to the old ones while updating just enough to keep it fresh. It's Sega arcade racing at it's best.

I'm glad I already have this game.
