Eldar Campaign Announced for Dawn of War 2: Retribution
The Eldar will be joining the Orks as the second playable race in Dawn of War II - Retribution's campaign mode, THQ has announced. Players will take the role of "Autarch, a lethal and efficient commander of the Eldar warhost." A new trailer introduc
A new trailer introducing the Eldar campaign can be viewed below.
Retribution is a standalone game in the Dawn of War II series and will not be backwards compatible with the original game or its expansion, Chaos Rising, due to Retribution's use of Steamworks over Games for Windows Live.
Retribution is planned for release in March of 2011. A beta, run through Steam, is planned for owners of Chaos Rising.

Chaos Rising had a more refined campaign (i.e. no more generic defense mission spam) than the original. It also made the specs more balanced. Hopefully Retribution will be as good, with further incentives to use "off-specs" such as ranged Thaddius or melee Avitus. Don't go overboard, though.

This is what I want to know. I LOVED the format they used for Dark Crusade and Soulstorm but I think I'd prefer several story campaigns (kinda like the first DoW or Chaos Rising). I really hope each race's campaign is of decent length and not just 4 missions a piece. Also, please try to make the missions more like those from Starcraft 2's single player campaign. I know that's a tall order but SC2 single player is pretty much the bar for RTS story mode.
From a quest/story standpoint, I think the Eldar have got the most potential. There are a lot of cool missions and plots you could explore with them.

I don't think off-specs will be as much of an issue in Retribution. Judging by screenshots, we'll be buying abilities directly from different trees instead of putting four or five points into a stat to reach them. This means you won't have to horribly gimp a character's melee ability or health because you want them to focus on ranged damage. They won't have the special abilities associated with those trees, but they'll be able to role-switch a little more freely to suit the mission. I'm not certain of any of this, of course, but that's how things look.
